A complete Rebel fleet...or.not?

By Hexdot, in X-Wing

I have no clear idea about the "numbers".of ships needed to say... " my fleet is complete". A compromise between diversity to play scenarios, and a reasonable number of ships.

Perhaps...

6 X wings ( the most iconic ship, multirole )

4 each A, B, Y.

2 or 4 E, not sure about this

1 HWK-290, perhaps 2...

4 Z 95

One yt 1300, plus one yt 2400

No idea about Huge Ships.

I think this is a good point to say...fleet complete, stop wasting money.

Your opinion?

Do I still have money?

> No: Stop buying X-wing

> Yes: Buy more X-wing

Repeat

Stop wasting money.

Unless you're going to play a lot of epic (like i do) then dont buy more than you can field in 100 points.

so more than 4 xwings is pointless

as is more than 3 ewings

You're better off with 6 Z95 than 4 ewings.

Aprox. 450 euro / dolars. Expending a reasonable ammount of money each mount, you can say "complete" in more or less six months.

The idea is to own enought ships to don't be limited when playing varied scenarios.

Recon, bombers, alpha strikes...

If you have not bought anything or much yet....

buy two core sets. this gives you 2 xwings

buy 1 xwing expansion

buy rebel transport for a good 'squad leader' repaint and some great pilots.

You dont need any more xwings than that unless you're playing really big games.

Likewise unless you fly them naked you're never going to need more than 4 Bwings or 6 A wings

But again this all works around 100 point lists.

Are you playing friends or just guys at the local store. if its the latter good luck getting anyone to do anything other than 6 rock 100 point deathmatch (nowt wrong with it as a format, just bores me)

Cost expenditure varies on where you live.

Cheapest you'll get a new small ship in the uk is about £9.50 and that usually discounted for some reason.

In the US they are what $9. So if you're in the states you'll get twice the collection for your budget than you would in say the UK.

Ugh Gadge, way to make me feel bad about placing ANOTHER order with Chaos Cards. I was tricking myself into thinking I got good prices.

I think I did a mistake purchasing 4 E, they are not present in.Episodes 4-6, and so they see few action in my games

Love Hwk 290, quite used in Deploy Commandoes" or " Black Hawk rescue team" games

Only 4, Not a big fun, not in the movies and.NOT jump capable...limited

Never been tempted to.purchase.second.large.

Definitely, at least 4 X,Y,A,B

Yeah we get massively screwed for ship cost in the UK

I think australia get it much worse though.

E wings are also quite 'expensive' for what you get. They work really well with the named characters in certain combos though.

But seriously. Before you buy anymore stuff, use the stuff you have. You have plenty. if you find you're needing something else then get it.

In Spain "official" prize, small 14.95.euro, large ones 29.95

You can find 15% discounts often

And remember, this is not about the ammount of ships needed to play, it is about when.to say..."Ok, complete"

Similar to UK costs.

I would advise rather than buying a huge rebel fleet to possibly buy two average sized fleets for two of (or all three) the factions.

Its great having 600 points of rebels sitting on your shelf but unless you want to play a narrractively silly (and quite confusing on the table) game of 'rebel vs rebel' when you're mates go 'oh can we have a game of that!' you're better off having a fair few imperials so at least your mates get to choose their ships rather than saying to them 'well i have 5 tie fighters and a bomber... give them some upgrades, it might scrape 100 points'.

Or i could be totally wrong, you could be very lucky and have a local gaming group who meet regularly to playt 500 points a side games.

Im suspecting you're probably like the rest of us though and mainly play with mates and the odd game at the local store.

I am lucky, as I live single I can reserve a quite large room to play and store wargames. Eons ago I played a Star Wars RPG campaign named "Black Sun" ( not sure ) were players had the control of a modified.corbette.

I.like the idea of a not confusing x wing campaign.game where the players are in command of a small carrier. Choose ships to engage different types of targets. Think a 80s carrier...

There are F 18... X

F 14... B

A 7... Y

And A 6... Not A ( jajaja ) but you know

Yeah i think you might have a somewhat 'unique' mindset and playstyle, which is a good thing. Diversity is cool.

I *think* from what you're saying you'd like my narrative campaign rules but you'll find most people on here are obsessed with 100 point deathmatches with six obstacles and shudder if you suggest there may be other ways of playing :)

As I have never played Tournament.or.in a Hobby.Store, I am quiet broad minded. I.like mini.games, 40 pts, 4 asteroids 2' x 2' to play in 10 minutes, two on two. But standard play...ORDINANCE, a waste, TIE BOMBER, you are mad, Y WINGS ? Don't buy them.!!!

Ordance has its uses.

I've won games with XXYY lists in 100 point matchs.

Equally four bombers can do well if you can get that ordnance off quickly.

If you don't have specific large point scenarios in mind i would agree in never buying more of a single ship type than what you can fit into 100 points. Mostly even less because some ships don't make too much sense without upgrades.

I have been pondering this question too lately, I am primarily a Rebel Commander but I want to collect at least one of each ship in the other factions.

I would say you are pretty much spot on. 6 X-wings is a bit much but I know what its like, sometimes they just appear!

I have 4 A-wings but want 1 more as you can fit 5 in a 100 point team.

Also have 2 Hwks and it is interesting to use 2 in friendlys every now and then.

with the Headhunters it depends if you would ever want to swarm, as to how many more you get.

E-Wings I agree is difficult, I only have 1 and I do intend on getting another but that should be enough.

I think you can get 6 chardan refit protoype pilots into 100 points cant you?

I only have eight as i like to have a 'blue' squadron of four from rebel aces and a 'red squadron' from expansion packs in epic games.

On the odd days i play 100 pointers i use the blue models with elite pilots.

Three ewings works well with a corran, etahn, knave swarm tactics chain but it you lose either corran or ethan early it all falls to bits.

Headhunters you want six. Four bandits led by blount and cracken. Again 'swarm tactics' allows you to have either blount and one of the bandits work as PS8 or Have two PS 8 and two PS 6 ships in your force.

Make sure blount carries assault missiles as he cant miss, so get them off quick and thin out the enemy (unless you're playing agains two ship micro builds)

HWKs are great in epic where you can give them the crew and support to make them really back up your fleet but in 100 point game its a lot of points sunk into a very easy to kill ship that struggles to throw that much back

1 to three special ships (HWK-290/K-Wing), 3 to 6 for your main fleet (A-B-X-Y-Wings & 6 to 9 Z-95's), for small ships. 1 to 3 large ships. 1 to 2 huge ships. That does it for just about any game IMO.

:)

A little bit...expensive

You're right! I remember the list I built with the prototypes, each had proton rockets on equating to the extra 15 points for another ship! doh...now I am going to have to buy another two haha.

I like your Headhunter squad...I only have 1 at the moment but do intend on getting Most Wanted. Then I can get a few more eventually.

I would say your rebel list is what I would like to aim for minus 2 A Wings. Rebel Transport is next up for me after getting some birthday money!

Currently on Awing(4) Bwing(3) Xwing(4) Ywing(2) Ewing(1) YT1300(1)YT2400(1) CR90(0) GR75(0) HWK(2) Z95(1)

Yeah that looks about right. I have the exact same collection minus 1 Xwing which I've been thinking of rectifying but might wait for the next repaint to come out. At this point I just wait for new waves and contemplate buying extras just to do repaints and conversions. Only reason I want multiples of large ships is for that reason and until I have time to do that I haven't felt the need to spend the money. I feel awkward deploying some guys as the wrong paint jobs y'know?

One of the hardest things about this is getting the upgrades in the proper amounts.
If an Imperial Loyalist wanted to field a Black swam with Draw Their Fire in Epic, they'd need 12 Falcons!
