SirWilli's Workshop: X-Wing 2.0 stuff

By SirWillibald, in X-Wing

Did you ever make an X-Wing product similar to this Aramada command bridge?

Other than changing the name from armada to xwing and the defence tokens label to shields it is pretty much ready to go. I think I will make some to use"as is" in the meantime.

Much appraisal to you, sir.

Thanks a lot, even though you seem to have hit the wrong forum :)

Cool pictures, thanks for showing!

That's right, and I'm planning an X-Wing version as well. I'm just undecided on how to handle the fact that in X-Wing some ships don't even need upgrade slots and most small ships don't need much damage slots. Make only one combined card tray (won't look that nice when closed, but you could stack two holders with ease for storing)? Add a single slot for damage cards on the main tray (for swarm ships that don't need much at all)? Thoughts welcome!

I would suggest going with a one size fits all for now. If you are feeling ambitious you could make a swarm version that holds a coupke of ships with 4 damage slots each. I would also suggest changing the name from command bridge to cockpit as that is more thematic for x wing

Ok, here's a little preview, I decided to leave the design more or less unchanged. I will only add a combined damage/upgrade card tray, so you can build CardHolders with just one side for regular ships. Version with two side holders for big ships are also possible of course (and I'm still thinking about the possibility for a swarm holder. Nothing figured out until now, though).

I changed "Command Bridge", my first version had only "Cockpit", but the single word got a bit lost. So how about "Flight deck"? According to wikipedia this is a valid synonym for cockpit, but I'm still from germany and still no native speaker, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

And yes, I know that the artwork only represents the empire, but it's really not that easy to find a suitable cockpit view from an X-Wing (let alone a scum ship), so I'll stick with this one. You won't even see it in the game.

A flight deck is the surface of an aircraft carrier where the planes land and takeoff. I am not sure where that wikipedia article got the usage from but i've never heard it before. I wasn't able to find any good synonyms for cockpit.

Found it. A flight deck is the control area of a large comercial plane or a B52. Small fighterplanes have cockpits. The falcon could have a flight deck an xwing a cockpit

Since X-Wing players are commanding a squadron and not piloting an individual ship, you could call the tray an Operations Room, Command Information Center, Operations Center. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operations_room

Ok, in this case flight deck might be not that good.

You have a point, but these CardHolders are intended to serve as representations of individual ships, therefore your suggestion won't capture the spirit, either.

I think I'll give the simple "Cockpit" another try and concentrate on doing the print sheets, nobody will bother in end what those things are called on the underside.

Very nice. I made one of the armada command bridges and I'm very impressed with how sturdy they are.

if you are looking for suggestions, in the swarm box, could you use half of the dial area to put in damage slots?

Concerning your suggestion:

Thought about that myself, only problem with this is that it covers the pilot card. But if you're OK with that I can do this. Think I'll simply make an additional print sheet with some inserts for this area (thinking of two or three slots), this way everybody can choose wether or not they should be included.

Only now found out about you.

Super awesome stuff!

Will try to build something this weekend.

Outstanding work SirWilli. This cockpit is not only cool looking, but it looks extremely functional for keeping all the cards and tokens together. I have a large table to play on (8ft x 3.5ft) but it always feels too small once you spread everything out. I'll be making a few of these to organize, I just have to get over the intimidating looking templates :)

wunderbar!....sehr gut!

Yes, I could, done:

If you already built a swarm holder, don't worry, it's an optional upgrade, just the print the (new) last page from the v1.1 file and you can build additional slots.

Long time no see, guys, a little update on my website:

I've added my MiniManeuverCards (perhaps you know them from BGG) and updated them to v3.0:

- Includes all wave 7 ships
- Includes Imperial Raider
- Bugfixes (Scum Hwk, IG-2000 replaced with Aggressor)
- Added additional page containing only new (or improved) cards

Work in progress, 3 out of 4 done:

Notice the squeezed hangar on the left, felt the wrath of SirWilli after refusing to give a tight fit. New ships are not that great to box, as you can see two of them had to be put in at an angle to prevent them from rattling around. But now it works. Finally. Now I have to take some photos to make some specs graphics and then I have to box this **** tooth...

As usual, sir, your work is FANTASTIC!. Thank you again for everything you have done for the community and on your site.

Prost!

Done!

If all works as planned I'll have the upload ready soon. Of course with english versions, as well. :)

Sorry, just opened a new thread for this info, forgot about this one :/

Wave 7 hangars and GearBoxes ready for download. Further infos and download (of course in english, too) on my website:

Feedback welcome!

Sorry, the wave 7 GearBoxes weren't there, even though I stated otherwise. Uploaded them now, to be found in the download section.

Another minor update, the damage deck box for the Imperial Raider is ready, look for "Damage Deck Boxes v3.0":

And update time again! Not so much from the outside, but I changed my entire workflow to make future changes more easy. Now I'm able to add new content or even complete new language versions by using an Excel sheet!

Love what you do! These boxes are amazing. DO you have any storage solutions for tokens? Also what goes in an X-Wing Gearbox? I have the dial, base, Ship tokens.

Thanks a lot! A storage solution for tokens is on my list, I designed a token box for Imperial Assault, when it's done I'll adapt it for X-Wing!

The GearBoxes are meant to hold peg, base, ship tokens and dial.
