Painted CSS-1 Corellian Star Shuttle

By Fanbus, in X-Wing

My CSS-1 "Senator Shuttle", ready for our next game night. Could have been better, but meh... it's done.

Colors: All Citadel paints.

Red- Scab Red with a little black to bring it down.

White- Skull White

Yellow- Averland Sunset

Grey- Dawnstone

Lining- 30% Nuln Oil, 30% Abaddon Black, 40% water

Primed with cheap Wall-Mart Flat Black (the blue can). This helped fill a lot of the roughness from the 3D print process. The results are similar to painting old pewter.

1) I painted the red first using multiple layers until most of the entire model was covered (minus engine nozzles and exhausts).

2) I lined the whole model to bring out all the details.

3) Gave the whole model a quick Screaming Skull + Scab Red drybrush to bring out some of the detail

4) Painted all the white using multiple thin layers.

5) Hand painted on all the yellow markings and panels, as well as the engine effects.

6) Finished the engine exhausts and gave them a quick white drybrush to bring out their detail. Also gave them a nuln-oil wash.

The engines look amazing. Love it.

That came up amazing! Looks awesome.

Nice and clean looking with very crisp lines. Not bad at all! I do think it could use some highlights but that's quite frankly a rather minor complaint.

I know what you mean, I was trying to avoid the cell-shaded 28mm miniature look you get when you do all the highlighting and such.

I agree, thats one of the best looking printed ships ive seen.

If only ffg made the core set come with this... man, that wouldve have been awesome!!

Very nice! I don't think the texture from the printing process detracts from the model's appearance. It DOES make it look a little more weathered than your paint job would suggest, but I think it looks great both alone and next to the X-Wing. I'll second Cilionelle on the engines; they look great!

Is this your 'solid' printed version? Is this the regular WSF or the polished version?

This is WSF-Polished. On my shop this was the "Solid" version. The Hollow version is exactly the same, just cheaper and has a square small hole on the underside. A simple piece of cardstock or hobby putty filler to fill the gap should be enough.

Wow. That looks great!

Looking great. A shame the model is so expensive. :(

Really excited for mine to come in the mail. It has shipped, so I'll be painting it up soon. Thanks so much for putting the model on shapeways!

Are you sure you're looking at the right one? Both Solid and Hollow are the same, minus the material exit hole on the Hollow version.

CSS-1 Corellian Star Shuttle (Hollow)

Reason the solid one is up is because several of the local guys where I play wanted the solid one mainly do to the weight.

Yeah. How dare you post this tripe here... ;)

Holy crap, man... This is FANTASTIC work! Well done.

It's almost 30€, before P&P. That's very expensive for a model that only has a single use: as an objective marker.

Well, if you play the X-Wing version of things. It has limitless uses as a model for Star Wars RPG-X-Wing fusion.

It's $27 which converts to $23 Euro, unless I'm mistaking € for some other currency. If I remove the markup it'll end up about $24-25 or 20-21 Euro. You're aware we don't make much if anything on these things right?

Also, the size is what makes it 20 bucks. I'm not resizing it since there is already a smaller albeit less detailed one on Shapeways (and costs about the same, btw).

Vanity models are always going to cost more, look at any other miniatures game that has objective markers and you'll notice they're no cheaper than any other model in their line, and typically cost more since they are limited production runs.

Either way, Shapeways sets the price based on print space and material used. It's already thinned out as much as possible, and I wouldn't want to any further. Just got my cargo containers and they feel fragile.
