BYE aces squadron

By Antikos, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all,

I'm preparing a list for an upcoming fun tournament. I like flying mobile high PS pilots and came up with the following squadron:

100 Points

44 points
Corran Horn
R2-D2, Fire-Control System, Push the Limit
32 points
Keyan Farlander
Push the Limit
24 points
Gold Squadron Pilot
BTL-A4 Y-Wing, R2 Astromech, Ion Cannon Turret

I don't get to play X-wing very often, so I'm not a great pilot. But I thought I could hold the centre with Keyan and the Gold Squadron Pilot for some knife fighting/jousting, while Corran can either fly with them and then break off, or go for some flanking.

Any suggestions for improvements or how to fly this squadron?

I think Corran has a BIG target lock on himself in this list. Why not take Biggs to protect him?

Also im not sure how much you will really get out of the two push the limits. Yes its nice on Keyan but it doesnt really give you more mobility besides adding a second action after your barrel roll. So I'm not sure this list gives you want you want if you aim for high mobility. At least there are better options in doing this.

If you love mobility you should seriously consider putting Adv. Sensors and Stay on Target on Keyan.

Who are you going to shoot first, Corran with 3 green dice, an evade and focus or Keyan with just 1 green and focus? Corran doesn't need Biggs here.

However, having engine upgrade on him would be really nice. Not sure if the sacrifices you would have to make to get it are worth it.

perhaps...

Corran w/ PTL,eng,R2 astro

keyan w/ VI, adv sens

2 x bandits

100 pts

extra guns...Z's are naughty when ignored...

Thanks for the feedback.

I would love to have at least advanced sensors on Keyan, and I always wanted to try stay on target but never managed to include it into a list.

I took the exact list to a small casual tournament in my city and it did surprisingly well. I won 4 out of 4 games, and came second only due to the cumulative points I lost.

Corran didn't die once, nor did he have to draw damage. I don't think he needs Biggs. Actually, I want the opponent to shoot Corran. Usually he is out of arc, behind an asteroid, or turtles up with focus and evade.

Being able to shoot twice and having a target lock for most shots makes his damage output quite reasonable, too.

I lost the Y-wing and Keyan twice each in different games though, which lost me the first place. If I hadn't lost either of them in two games, I would have gotten first.

PTL on Keyan is a bit of a waste without Engine Upgrade. I often only used PTL to get a stress and a focus next to a target lock, and I rarely had to barrel roll in or out of arc.

The Warthog did surprisingly well. I never had much luck whenever I played one, but yesterday it did quite a lot of damaged and ionized several ships.
