XXX / XXY build suggestions

By Conandoodle, in X-Wing Squad Lists

We are seeing a lot of flak for the game's namesake lately. Reading the various topics regarding the X-Wing I see a few people arguing that they are just fine as they are.

I love flying the X-Wing, it is why I got into this game and my lists always have an X-Wing or 2.

So my friends, I would like to see some suggestions for some fun builds that utilise an X-Wing focused force.

To start us off:

X-Wing: Wes Janson + VI + R7-T1 (33)
X-Wing: Wedge Antilles + Outmaneuver + R2-D2 (36)

Y-Wing: Dutch Vander + Ion Turret + R7 (30)

Wes strips evade/focus from opponent. Wedge tears them apart whilst Dutch hands out TLs because he's a nice guy.

How about EXX?

Etahn A'baht (32)
Push the Limit (3)
Advanced Sensors (3)
R5-P9 (3)
Luke Skywalker (28)
Expert Handling (2)
R2-D2 (4)
Tarn Mison (23)
R7 Astromech (2)
Total: 100
Rather than go offense with 3 relatively fragile ships, I figured defense might be smarter. Luke can Barrel Roll + recharge shields, Etahn can PTL for Focus + Evade, and Tarn is just frustrating. Plus Etahn's ability lets everyone throw down extra crits, which will be helpful with only 9 total red dice.

A bit goofy but...

X-WING: · "Hobbie" Klivian (25)

· R3-A2 (2)

X-WING: · Jek Porkins (26)

Push The Limit (3)

· R5-D8 (3)

· Experimental Interface (3)

X-WING: · Luke Skywalker (28)

Push The Limit (3)

· R5-P9 (3)

Engine Upgrade (4)

Not sure why you put EU on Luke if youre using r5p9

PTL boost focus

I don't think EU is worth it on x-wings without a plan. You're paying an awful lot to shoot very average attacks from very fragile and already expensive ships. The only time I've found it justifiable is on the Stress Wing, when you need to adjust for hyper-mobile ships like dash, soontir, and pre-errata phantom.

moving on from that, I don't see the use of PTL when you can only TL or Focus

might as well use Predator. Same ****, no stress.

also would not recommend outmanuever. If an x-wing outmanuevers anything that's not a shuttle, said something has done something wrong

If there were some way to give Wedge more action efficiency, I'd love to recommend S.o.T. (with r2 astro to help deal with stress). Dutch may be appropriate.

Maybe Jek could also work it, but he's a lowly PS 7 and not awesome like Keyan (who can carry his own int agent :D)

Personally, I only ever use one X-wing in any squadron from a selection of

1. Luke (Vi, R3-A2, eu)

2. Luke (predator/lw, r2-d2/r5-p9)

3. Tarn (R7 astro)

4. Biggs (R4-d6)

I used to run a good ole Predator Wedge back in Wave 4, but the rise of the cancerous fat turrets in wave 5 put a prompt end to that. Dude's too fragile to go up against large amounts of health.

Comparing Predator Wedge to Outmaneuvre Wedge: Wouldn't Wedge optimally be shooting with TL anyway? The dice can only be rerolled once. Predator becomes reduntant. I would rather use my TL and re-roll what I want, as opposed to being limited to one die.

Particularly if, as in the OP, Wedge is paired with someone like Dutch.

With Predator you'd be taking Focus as your action and not a Target Lock.

Here's my favourite XXX build:

Wes Janson (29)
Veteran Instincts (1)
R5-P9 (3)
Wedge Antilles (29)
Opportunist (4)
R2 Astromech (1)
Luke Skywalker (28)

as WWH said, you want to focus with Wedge. It completes his offense and makes him not auto-die to basically anything

**** Dutch. He's moving before Wedge and his free target-lock is going to be very unwieldy given the positioning involved, thus he's better off supporting lower PS pilots (who have a hell of a time getting TLs off on their own). You'd need someone more along the lines of V.I cracken.

Plus, even with Dutch, you'll be getting more out of predator than outmanuever unless your opponent feels very sorry for you :P

I'd pair wedge with Cracken + Veteran Instincts, that way you can always guarantee Wedge a free action as long as Cracken lives, so you can focus + target lock every turn.

I love flying x-wings and my current favorite list is this.

Luke w/Lone wolf, R2-D2, Shield upgrade

Biggs w/ R2-F2, Stealth Device

Tarn w/R7 Astromech, Stealth Device

This list takes the 2 toughest X-wings makes them even tougher, then throws in biggs for added protection. End game with Luke is very difficult to stop, as Lone Wolf is always active if hes the last man standing.

I also like PTL and engine upgrade with R2-D2 on luke as it makes a better dogfighter, just not as tough.

Tarn w/R7 Astromech, Stealth Device

That's a pretty significant (3pt) Initiative bid!

I was typing the list from memory, i also put some fletchettes on Tarn, to take advantage of his free target locks.
