Old news to some but really annoyed at the FAQ

I made a mistake about the rules and the effect of some items

Despite admitting i was wrong twice some people cant read a thread and just reply to the first post.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO REPLY TO THIS THREAD

The issue is solved.

I was *wrong* about something, i know its hard to believe but it does happen :)

I think it hurts Fat Han more than Imperials.

It does kind of nerf the Evade action (which didn't need it), but how many things actually auto-hit though through evade dice?

Ten Numb + Mango

Autoblaster/turret

That's all I can name off the top of my head. Ten Numb and the Autoblaster cannon needed a buff. There isn't a whole lot of auto-hit things out there, so I think its a decent sacrifice.

Just seems a fundamental change in the rules, mainly to sell mangler cannons.

Cant say im impressed.

I, too, hate this stale meta of uncancellable hits and crits.

Mangler cannons are pretty good to start with, and don't need help, plus the only way this ruling affects them is if they're on Ten Numb, who you can only have one of, so this isn't really going to make people buy extra mangos.

Plus it's debatable if this is a good option for Ten, since if he rolls a natural crit then you can evade the 2nd one. Anything that gives Ten more crits isn't really always a great idea.

But autoblasters did need help and this change was aimed at those.

I think the idea is to make more ships die more often. Attackers get the advantage so that games actually end. As was said before, this really does not help anything that was not pretty terrible to begin with.

On a side note, anyone ever consider Ten Numb with an autoblaster cannon? Maybe with calculation...

Still bad then, so fundamental change in the core mechanics to make one weapon better.

This is the first time since i started playing this game a year or so ago when i thinkk FFG have made a truly appalling decision.

I have always thought of it as a dice result: the token just allows you to add 1 evade result to your dice roll. I think thats how its phrased in the rulebook anyhow. Dont have it in front of me, so could be mistaken.

we always played it as it was an 'automatic evade' as your pilot was jinking like crazy. Made narrative sense, played well.

Now, well its just a boost to your dice, its not that 'fly by the seat of your pants'... 'save' that it was.

Are you really up against Ten Numb so often that this is a problem?

If the most obnoxious thing on the table I have to face with my swarm is an overpriced 8 PS B Wing with a Mangler cannon on it, sign me up.

It's still within the realm of normal X Wing IMO. It could be worse, everyone in your area could be a diehard Turretwing player.

More for Ten Numb and less for Mangler Cannon. I mean, you can use it against a Mangler Cannon all day long...except vs. Ten Numb.

It only effects a couple of combos. Ten being the main example, and he still isn't in the main meta currently. I think it was more of a simplification of the rules. Maybe they have some future upgrades that will benifit from the rule change.

Ten Numb is 31 Points base, with 1 Point for Calc or 5 for Mango blasters. Even with Calculation, he's just shy of a third of your points, to do a single Crit per round (If you're in his arc, and at range 1-3).

Autoblaster is famously crapcakes.

The Turret is decent, but is only on Y-wings or HWKs (if you put it on a HWK please play another game). It shouldn't be too difficult to stay out of the range 1 bubble, as most ships with Evade tend to have a post maneuver repositional action.

I think someone is forgetting that if you go back to the original rules Evades were supposed to add results to the dice pool. Hence you should not have been able to cancel Autoblaster/Ten Numb with them anyway. It was a FAQ that allowed you to in the first place!

Its not the point.

Its about changing core mechanics to buff an upgrade or a pilot.

I object to that on a games design level.

really?

I totally misread that for over a year then.

Oh well.

I've never played it any other way. It was just a clarification, right?

So 'evade' tokens now count as a 'dice result'

Thats just poor on FFGs part.

To me the 'evade' action is the lynch pin of keeping an imperial fleet alive.

It meant that even with horrific abilities to make some hits uncancellable by dice you had a *chance* with evade.

Now essentially you have a few pretty much 'auto hit/autocrit' oppoents out there that used to be 'good' but are now 'ridiculous'

(tien numb with mangler was brought to my attention)

Its not like im going to stop playing or anything but i think that bit of the FAQ is getting deleted from our house rules :)

But it has always been so, please just check the "Rules of Play" booklet:

Page 12:

Spending an Evade token

If the defender has an evade token, he may return

it to the action token supply to add one additional [Evade]

result to his defense roll.

Same for Focus:

Spending a Focus Token

If the defender has a focus token, he may return it

to the action token supply during this step to change

all [Focus] results on the defense dice to [Evade] results

I still read that differently, perhaps incorrectly so but it seemed most people i play against read it the way i do in that it was an 'evade' that wasnst an 'change of a die to evade'

Fair play if i've got it wrong.

The other way of looking at it is a nerf to C-3PO. Which has been called broken more than anything else in the game.
