new wording on 'within'

By oneway, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Seems the new secodary weapon wording looks like it changes the way we decide range.. now it must be within the specified range.. so they way we figured it today, is that the entire ship must be within the range increment.. ie proton rockets and blaster cannons have a range of 1, so the entire base of a ship must now be inside the range 1 area, or you cannot shoot it with the Prorocks

Have we got this right, or are we wrong...

What new wording?

The section on Secondary Weapons in the core rulebook states:

"In addition to being inside the attacker’s firing arc, the closest point of the target ship’s base must fall within the weapon range shown on the card"

So yes, they say "within", but they're talking about the "closest point".

Plus, the example for Proton Torpedoes says :

"Proton torpedoes can only be used to attack an enemy ship that is at Range 2–3."

It's similar wording with target locks.

So does it mean the entirety of the base has to be within the range, or am I reading too much into it??
