So who's actually winning atm?

By Viewtiful_Joe, in UFS General Discussion

I've noticed a lot of posts lately showing what people are playing, and how people think characters should be assigned to their respective tiers, but has anyone actually held any sort of tournaments for NEWFS yet? Do we have any solid results as to who's winning what? At UK Nationals this weekend, we're having a miniblock tournament (which I guess will be the last opportunity to call it 'miniblock') on the Sunday, but I've no idea what to expect :|

Expect the unexpected :b

At our last tournament here with about 10 people, top4 was Astrid - Brian Fury - Rashotep - something I don't remember (Tira?)

UFS Off-season = No real tournaments worth talking about until UK Nats = No real data of any value.

Ivy is winning where I play at. My Rash hasn't come out as well as I hoped.

it isnt off season yet, Pro Tour in the south coming up next month..

Aren't all unreleased promos (bryan fury, heihachi, kishieri, etc.) illegal to run a tourneys until they are official released?

Im pretty sure at least brian has been released so far i know i got mine like a month ago(maybe like 3 weeks) from the pre-release i believe

But at our store as of right now weve had 2 NEWFS tourneys and astrid won both of them and my siggys came in second both times

Kishieri isn't legal.

But Brian/Steve Fox/Heihachi and Jin are all legal as of the Pre-releases.

Astrid**'s legal as well, she's now in standard support. Kyoufu, Marius, and White Crane also join Kisheri in the 'not legal' category.

does anyone know when they will be legal?

We have had an Ivy Win, a Lu Chen Win, and a Jin win thus far.

I have no idea other than 'whenever they hit standard support,' but with the prize support system having just changed I don't know what's gonna be in next month's support... =/

yeah im not too much of a fan of the new prize system.....

I mean its good that they want everyone to have a chance to get those promos but then you have the problem of not being interesting to some of the players.

I didnt want either astrid or jin so im just stuck this month

I never get all the legality stuff... Although I do get that Kishieri can't be, i.e. she hasn't been released in any normal prize support or similar fashion.

Are the cards released as promos at Gencon all legal then?

i.e.

Ancient Burial Site:

The Tablet of Gilgamesh:

Clash of the Ages:

Perfect Memory:

The Devil Within:

Heir to the Storm:

The Newcomers:

The Peaceful Way:

Probably good to know becuase I distributed a lot of them to my playgroup upon arrival home from Gencon, and yeah - I'd be lieing if I didn't say they appear in some of my decks now and then...

On topic,

Zi Mei, Hilde, Astrid, Jin, King, Paul are the recent winners and runners up at our store tourneys. Most characters are very competitive though, i.e. there would probably be more variety of winners if we played more often than twice a week.

look out for the new promo cassie. She's Nasties.

The GenCon promos are indeed legal at this time. They became legal as of Sept 1st.

I cant find any threads from FFG staff that says they would be legal sept 1, normally cards that are given out aren't legal til they hit regular prize support (like promo Zhao Daiyu from US nats 08 )

Oro? O.o

Will never be printed.

Astrid has won all of our events so far for block 4. James hata is doing well and so is Brian, steve, and Rashotep.

Jasco Games

It was announced at GenCon, and since I couldn't remember if it was 'immediately' or some other time that they were legal from the announcement, I asked James over AIM on 8/20/09:

VanishNagoya (3:08:44 PM): so do you know when the new promos are considered legal? i've heard 'immediately' and 'Sept 1st'
(3:09:07 PM): sept 1st

Bleh - I eat Astrid's for breakfast! As mentioned in another post I have dedicated a lot of time to answering Astrid... She is definately the most consistent character atm, I think King is pretty close though, especially with some of his own support and Path.

Hmmm....

right now its a tie between astrid and paul. It will probably change as soon as we get a promo astrid. Man I really hate that character her background is dumb her character is dumb her abilities are dumb but I do like pommel smahs : P

Void King > Astrid (I'd hope).

Cobra Clutch + King of the Ring = smaller handsize, MAC stops as much draw as it possibly can, Ka Technique blanks stuff. Just a thought? =/
