tie fighter video game

So I started playing tie fighter again, and midway through a mission I get a cryptic message 'Incoming missile, key to target?'

Anybody know what that means? What does 'key to target?' mean? Is there anyway to avoid incoming missiles?

Method 1(BORING): waggle joystick around like crazy

Method 2(CORRECT): hit space, turn to face missile, blow it up with lasers

Don't let them lock you in the first place by flying crazy fast all the time.

IIRC the magic distance was .40km for a missile where you just pull up and go into loops to avoid it. It might be .35km, it was almost 20 years ago when I played it (!!!! Wow I'm old!!!!) and adv missiles might maneuver tighter.

It's been a while since I played that game, but if my memory serves me well, I believe that by pressing any key your targeting computer locks onto the incoming missile. Then your minimap will show you what direction the missile is. That way, you can try to avoid it right when it's about to hit you.

It's a signal for you to start hitting Shift+F10 like crazy if you're at a dead stop getting your warhead reloaded.

Just finished Tour 13 myself. I was playing the TIE95 remake with the enhanced graphics. My purchased copy included the old version, but I figured it didn't have the voice over for the dialogue so gave it up for the newer. It wasn't until I tried out one mission for old time's sake that I figured out that they were included. I was kicking myself because that meant I had gone through the whole game missing out on the best part of the whole of TIE Fighter. DAT IMUZE MUZAK! I loved the way the old music would alert to new events so you didn't have to take your eyes off your HUD. The enhanced skins for the models can't hold a candle to that.

Just imagine if good ol' Maarek Stele was as talented on his card as he was in the game!
