By iPanterra, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Firstly apologies if this has gone into the wrong forum, I am new in this forum so please redirect it if need be, however I need I would like so help regarding my builds, Good & bad points are welcome. Constructive criticism is also welcome. I am trying to build a dual IG-2000 that is viable for tourney play and here are a few builds I am considering.

Build1 100pts

IG-88C

- Push the limits, Mangler, Ion Cannons, IG-2000 & Hot shot blaster

IG-88B

- Push The limits, Mangler, Ion Cannons, Auto Thrusters, IG-2000 & Hot shot blaster

Build 2 100pts

IG-88C

- Marksmanship, HLC, FCS, Autothrusters & IG-2000

IG-88B

- Marksmanship, HLC, FCS, Autothrusters & IG-2000

Build 3 100pts

IG-88B

- Veteran Instincts, Mangler, Proximity Mines, Advanced Sensors, Auto Thrusters, IG-2000 & Inertial Dampeners.

IG-88C

- Veteran Instincts, Mangler, Proximity Mines, Advanced Sensors, Auto Thrusters, IG-2000 & Inertial Dampeners.

Please note that, while I was building these I also had to try and counter my friends Stresscimator build. He was looking to put up dual decimators.

Help please.

Build 1 is no good. Having 2 ships do one damage each won't get you anywhere.
These bots don't need control because they can out fly almost anything (as long as you bring inertial dampeners).
If stress is in your meta PTL is a trap.
Build 3 is pretty good but I like FCS better than advanced sensors for action economy.

I like Build 3 the most.

unless someone else with good real board time experience can say, i think AdvSen and FCS are a wash at this point. Probably both good, with AdvSen being better by that whole 1point. Since I don't see anything else you really want to spend 2 points on, you might as well.

I'm no expert, but from what I've been hearing of other people's experiences, asymmetrical aggressors is the way to go. With only 2 ships, your damage output is low, so you need to make every shot count. At the same time, those big bases are easy to bump and sometimes hard to arc-dodge, so defensive actions are important. For that reason, I think adv. Sensor or even jammer are worth considering.

For offense, C needs a HLC. B could take 1 too, but with his ability, you might get away with mangler and it has the advantage of working at range1 with B's ability. You may also want to consider D over C since the aggressors cover a lot of ground so its often hard to boost at times, whereas the sloop will come in handy throughout any match.

Please bear in mind that I have only been playing this for 1 month and possibly I only have played 5-6 100pts games against either my brother in-law and friend.

This was my last resort built, I tried looking into heavy damage.

IG-88B

Marksmanship, HLC, FCS, Autothrusters & IG-2000

IG-88C

Marksmanship, HLC, FCS, Autothrusters & IG-2000

100pts in total.

This is a potential build I was looking at testing I have a 100pts tourney at the end of the month I would like to enter.

Build 1:

Push the limit without advanced sensor is a no go. You will stress yourself and be unable to k-turn or s-loop. Also I would suggest going ion or mangler, but not both. And yes, ion cannons can work on their own.

Build 2:

Might work, but this is going for an alpha strike kind of damage. Not my style as it leaves you nothing for defense.

Build 3:

It can work, but some elements are counter-synergic. You try to increase your PS rating, but use proximity mines which benefit ships with lower PS rating. You might also regret not having a surefire way to increase your hit ratio like predator when you face other ships with autothruster. You will, very often, cause 2 damage, one which will be a crit, against shielded ships who will be happy, if they roll just 1 evade, to keep their tokens for the offensive.

Overall:

There is no one perfect build for dual IGs, but a lot of practice IS required to make whatever build you chose work. I won 3 tournaments with dual Ion IGs not because they are the best, but because I practiced a lot and learned how to make them work.

My Build 2 I have put up 2x HLC for the purpose of heavy damage with Marksmanship as support.

The reason I picked IG-88C instead of D although I found that D is very useful with the hard 3 S turns I found that boosting and getting a dodge from it seems a lot more useful and gives me more dodge potential when I need it.

As well as I get both B and C abilities on both ships because of the IG-2000 special card ability which allows me to use either pilot ability on both ships.
