XQ-series Platforms
Norsehound gave the great idea of doing the base for the platform the Large Stand from X-Wing... Do you think that would be posible? To adapt the template of the Armada ship to the proportions of the Large Template from X-Wing?
Well, the rules only contemplate the three standard sizes, so (and I know this sounds a bit silly given what we're doing here) I'd kinda prefer to stick to those. But graphics-wise it's just a few minutes work for me, so I suppose I have no problem making both versions ![]()
I think they would be served well with both an additional black die for anti-fighter, and/or something like the Salvation title... maybe:
Border Space Outpost
[Engineering Command]: Spend 1 engineering point to remove one damage point from a friendly fighter within range 1.
I also agree that they look overpriced, considering they're immobile and therefore don't have access to defensive tokens... or the ability to claim objective tokens.
The price came straight from RogueKnight's formula, which obviously doesn't take the idiosyncrasies of a space station into account. I just didn't know how much to adjust it, considering they get a huge deployment advantage. Like the BFF-1s, they're mostly scenario pieces anyway.
A missile-equipped anti-squadron version is in the works. And I love your starfighter repair Title, I'll give it a go too! Thanks for the suggestions ![]()
How often have you guys fired at ships with no defense tokens? It's kinda brutal. Maybe these guys should have brace for impact, at least?
Which made me wonder if you could adapt the squadron card templates to represent stations. All your attack totals and shield values are the same for all the arcs, so does it make a difference?
I'd certainly give them Brace if I could, but they wouldn't get to use it anyway because they are stuck at speed 0 and therefore cannot use defense tokens at all. Hence the inflated shields and engineering value, so they can reshuffle/replenish shields fairly quickly. I had originally made them with 4 shields per zone and 8 hull, which would be about right for the "official" 1000m length. But Mel's model is significantly smaller than a VSD, so it looked very odd. Might do a beefier XQ-6 card though.
As for using a Squadron template... even if the maximum shield values are the same in all four zones, the shields are split into four zones. It really isn't the same as a single, 12-shield zone, at all. Plus you'd need special firing rules as you'd no longer have arcs. No, I'd really rather stick to regular ship bases, even if they have the wrong shape ![]()
Well, nothing wrong with making some exceptions to the rules. By calling them space stations you're already making them a different category from ships and squadrons. So they'd be the only entity that could use defensive tokens at speed 0.
The shields and firing arcs are split into different zones yes but that's not necessary for record keeping. The reason they are there on the ship card is because ships have different values in different arcs. If they're identical, you could create the station card with the understanding that each arc has this shield value and this attack value in every arc. It's not like you're using that number to record shield values.
I get what you're saying, and it could definitely work, but it's outside the scope of my little project
I intend to stick fully to the rules as written. Note that the XQ Platforms are still categorised as Ships! (see e.g. the Title cards)
Heh, I hear you. Just can't help offering suggestions. If you get around to testing these definitely let us know!
