There has been an announcment about the new Planetfall cycle and its first warpack, Decree of Ruin. Apparently we'll get cards interacting with the planet icons as is shown on the new AM warlord card -.commissar Broderick Worr.

Also " Among the warlords in this cycle, you’ll find a warrior of Khorne, a Black Templars chaplain, an Eldar autarch, and more."

That neophyte has a lot of words going on

I wonder if they will do anything with discarding planets in your victory display for big bonuses with this whole icons matter business

Sounds like a good cycle.

Also nice to see nids getting support right after their big box. Will be interesting to see what that does for card versatility (especially if another warlord for everyone is on the cards).

Finally some planet symbol mechanics - been waiting for something like this...

Didn't take FFG long to jump into a new wave of warlords. Would personally have preferred for them to focus on expanding the current warlord base and Nids, but new cards are always exciting no matter what!

For those of us down under - it takes months before cards are available - we're still waiting on The Threat Beyond!

I too could have done without any new warlords for six months, then put an evergreen set in the next deluxe. That said I look forward to Commissar Worr!

Bah, there goes my hope for Gaunt being there. Hell they would have even used Yarrick, but alas I know too much about IP deals to have much hope.

Was actually hoping the next Guard Warlord would be vehicle based, but never mind.

Also, is it me or does the opening paragraph of this announcement hint that there will be a new planet as well?

There will be a Tau Warlord in this pack as well - the two factions I run with, taken care of in the first pack! Not bad.

Looks like another great step in the right direction. I love the unit of the new Warlord, granted I do think that is his most powerfull part as the other bonusses are more situational.

Will update the News and Rumours topic soon and give a small coverage of my thoughts about this.

Sounds great to me!

Planetfall not including new planets? Meh. At least the icon-based mechanics look promising.

It has been stated by someone at FFG that Planet Balance was one of the hardest things they had in the design of Conquest and that additional planets would be a long time coming.

I doubt we will see them in this cycle but I think new planets are not out of the question in the next Deluxe Box.

Exactly what I thought it was eluding to. :)

Not that I don't believe them, but i'd interested in hearing how/why it was one of the hardest things - I mean did they need to restrict the Icon pool? Did they have trouble coming up with abilities for the planets?

I imagine with these icon-specific combos coming into play, they have to make sure every icon is represented equally, but I'm just surprised to hear it was one of the hardest things.I personally would have been interested in seeing experiments with planets that had no ability, but three icons, or no icons, but a kick-ass ability, for example.

Experimentation is good.

I, too, would think that having simple, "bland" planets would have been simple to enact and playtest. I mean; how hard or unbalancing would a planet that had no ability other than icons be? (of course, I'm not a game designer... but allowing for variety and extra planets into the mix might or should add more depth to the game, no?) ((Not that any sort of depth was missing) :D

Looks promising, we probably won't see it until Q3 this year at the earliest. Adding new warlords is always interesting and Commissar Worr looks very interesting.. also a new Tau warlord in the same pack and 'nids.... Can't wait for their box next month.

I'd be happy if they added a new limited "mix" of planets that replace specific planets. For example, there could be a new set of singles that replace the current set. Another example would be to have a new triple that replaces a specific triple card. In this way, balance might be easier to reach, especially since they would then know which planet cards are no longer in the group. A rule could state that only one replacement group could be used at a time and if neither player could agree on the group, then the basic 10 are used. Anyways, just some ideas.

Deluxe box in June so the earliest this cold hit is July. Q3 starts August for most companies so...

A release every month seems like a bit much if you ask me. Wouldn't mind a break hah, even if it's just a month.

Looks good. Can't wait to try out some decks with it.

I don't like it how the latest previews still emphasize the new planet Sacaellum and even introduce cards with "Sacaellum's..." in their names while the battle continues over the old 10 planets.

And can the second 2-warlord pack mean that the tyranids might recieve more love in a tyranids-only pack in this cycle to close the card pool gap?

They said all factions get a third Warlord in this cycle. I took that to mean tyranids as well

Did the info on the Tyranid box say there were 2 or 3 warlords in the box? If 3 come in the box, then maybe they don't get a new (i.e., 4th) one in the Planetfall cycle?

From the article ( emphasis mine):

...

The Great Devourer is the first deluxe expansion for Warhammer 40,000: Conquest , and it introduces a brand-new faction to the game: the Tyranids! Two Tyranids warlords lead these horrific creatures into battle , each offering a very different play style. In addition to these warlords and their signature squads, you’ll find a host of new units, supports, events, and attachments to support the Tyranids, including an entirely new type of unit, the synapse unit. The Tyranids aren’t the only ones to benefit from this expansion, however. Every other faction must make its stand against the Great Devourer in the Traxis sector, and brand-new unique characters help them to battle the Tyranid threat.

...

Five distinct synapse units are included in The Great Devourer , giving you numerous options for customizing any Tyranid deck.

...

Thanks. I couldn't remember and was too lazy to go hunting for the article.
