Helping building 100 pt fleets for new players low on cash

By Hexdot, in X-Wing

Imagine you own a basic set. You want to play this superb game but simply you can not put 200 bucks on the table. What to buy to deploy a 100 pts list, minimun cost?

Perhaps...

REBELS

Your basic x wing

B wing

Milenium Falcon

Core Set plus 45 euro / dolars

IMPERIAL

Your two basic ties

A single tie Interceptor

Imperial Aces box ( 2 ships )

Core set + 45 euro / dolars

IMHO, you can build a good list with 85 bucks. And I you sell the other faction ship(s) and purchase via online, 60 euro/dolars are enought. A x box disc, not limited edition

Expensive game? I think not

you can also make 100 bucks in a month rather easily by selling returnables/ aluminum cans. mowing laws, washing cars, bagging groceries. ect ect...

The real pain is to get the upgrade cards you want. I own 78 ships now, but I will not purchase Starviper or Agressor. Not my like. But I LOVE autothrusters. So I copy paste them. This is the main problem with x wing. I will buy more Y, Bombers and Shuttles. But to play non tournament games, never a Starviper to own the autothruster card. Ships are fine modeled and well painted. They are even cheap. Yt-2400....uouhhhhh!!!!.

Just build your ships up over time. Budget your spending with your income and how willing you are to spend on the game.

Yes, but perhaps you also play xbox,.love cinema, need money to buy Trojans and study hard to prepare your degree. 100 bucks, a glass of wine to one person, or the money you can expend in hobbies in a month.

Re: how willing you are to spend on the game.

Best way to save money (not put your wallet in the endangered species list):

- Slowly build your collection: no need to buy all waves at the same time.

- Focus on a faction that you like (preferably after trying it out with friends)

- Proxy cards for friendly games.

- Be friendly with everyone in your local community. When a tournament comes, ask if you can borrow a few cards to complete your build.

Later, when your collection is built and another new player shows up, extend the same hand that was extended to you when you showed up. Everybody wins :)

Sir, I agree 100%. Ask for help and Advice, then help new players.

And perhaps the main advice... Focus your money, select one faction and go for it. You can buy one or two small ships every month, thats the way

If you want a Tournament worthy list on a budget, BBBBZ is 5 ships and no upgrades, and utterly terrifies a number of lists. BBBXZ is probably not quite as good, but can use the X-wing from the core set to save a few bucks.

Begin with finding out, which side you want to play. Sucks to blow hobby cash on Rebels if you find Empire or Scum to be more your liking.

One way to go with Empire. A decimator and the two Ties from the core set could hit the 100mark!

And BBBBZ is 75 bucks away... A xbox disc. With no DRMs. A very good advice. Buy this and a core set, sell the ties you will not play with, and more or less 100 euro to own a tournament quality fleet, plus a X wing to put over your desk. Thanks

While the decimator can hit sixty points, that's generally by adding upgrades from at least one other large ship (Engine upgrade and/or Rebel Captive)

4 B Wing lists especially the BBBBZ variant because it doesn't require upgrade cards you might not have, the quad Phantom list aka the, "I'm not even going to bother rolling dice, just take that Firespray off the table".

Soontir and 5 TIEs, whisper and a howl mini swarm.

There aren't many builds in this game that are expensive. What gets expensive is when you want to be able to run a 6 bomber list and a z95 swarm and quad phantoms and stuff. I mean, there are expensive lists that require multiples of oddball upgrades, like if you say want to run 6 Tacticians you have to have 6 Phantoms, but don't fly those or just find a way to acquire the upgrades separately from the ships.

I guess C3PO is expensive, $90 ship or ~$30 on his own, so stay away from builds that require him.

You could just buy two IG's and have a decent list. Corran and Dash seems good also.

Perhaps golden rule could be... BUILD LISTS WITH FEW OR NO UPGRADES

Or just proxy upgrade cards!

X-wing core, then buying another X wing and a Y wing, then an E wing, then a rebel transport. Maybe an additional X-wing after that.

Gives you 3 (or 4) X-wings, and a Y+E wing for variation, with every single astromech upgrade in the game. You can also use that space whale in epic games, providing board control for your fleet. You might not want any other ships. But if you do, I would recommend picking up an A-wing + B-wing, then a Rebel Ace's.

Then your 6 ships transforms into 10, and you have a solid rebel fleet.

Muster it outside of the Sullest System and attack a deathstar or something.

Z-95's, Hwks, and the large ships will be the only things you are missing, you can sprinkle them into your fleet however you want them.

E wing? mmmmmm... Perhaps, not sure about this. But definitely no to purchase a Rebel Transport. You can't afford epic play yet, cards can be proxy the first months in your pilot career. A Huge ship like this, the cheaper, is the same as two Bs, one A and one Y. Or the Falcon plus a Rebel Acespack. Too expensive

just give up movies tell Christmas.. then you will easily have enough money for X-wing..

I hear kidneys sell for a high price....Just saying.

well you could actually sell blood/plasma.lol A little extreme if you ask me..lol

I think Firespray, Most Wanted, HWK, is a pretty good starting point for Scum. Once it releases the logical next ship is Bossk in the Bus because of the nice upgrades.

For Rebels, I would go, Starter plus Rebel Aces, with the A-wing for PtL (good for Keyan) as the next ship.

For Imperials, I would go Starter, Imperial Aces, TIE fighter, then maybe TIE Advanced (this works better if you can get spares of the Raider cards) or Interceptor (but it could really be any Imperial ship, it's hard to go really wrong, but the Shuttle might be the worst choice).

I am not sure there are super competitive lists in there, but using available upgrades they could be reasonably solid for starter combos and the ability to use the cards they come with.

After reading this posts, nobody said that x wing is expensive to play. I think it is quite cheap, indeed. Perhaps it can be compared with the old and reliable Blood Bowl. You can build your team expending a few bucks...but out there a dozen of awesome teams are waiting for YOU.

Focus, Buy smart, and simply Enjoy.

Well alot of us used to play GW games where a new army costs £500-700 so in comparison three factions for under £200 is a bargain.

So yeah given model quality and rules quality x-wing is worth the money for most people.

I mean you could just do one faction and proxy cards when playing casual with friends and spend under a hundred but that never sticks we all end up playing everything.
