Something needs to change...

By Lendosan, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I have played ten games, not won one. Here is a list I am playing with, thoughts?

Kath Scarlet [Heavy Laser Cannon, Predator, Tactician] (50)

Maarek Stele [Cluster Missiles, Squad Leader] (33)

Mauler Mithel (17)

Desperation...

Perhaps 3 Imperial Ships are too few. Try.Kath + mini swarm. Kath plus 2 obsidians plus 2 academy

I'd get rid of Maarek Stele for the moment. He's not very useful right now before the introduction of the TIE/x1 card.

You've then got enough space for a couple more TIEs or a named Interceptor pilot.

Honestly, this list isn't very good.

But don't despair.

I would drop Mithel to Backstabber, that frees up one point for the new Tie/X1 and Advanced Targeting Computer. Ask your friends if they will be ok with you proxying it.

Kath Scarlet looks murderous here. Very nice.

Also take Calculation on Maarek Stele. And drop the Cluster Missiles. Heck if you drop the HLc, you had one more point left after all that you could take a whole new Academy Pilot.

Or take the 4 points from Cluster and give Kath an Engine Upgrade.

Try this list:

Fly in a group, and blast stuff. Then keep RAC alive into the end game:

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)
Gunner (5)
Ysanne Isard (4)
Mara Jade (3)
"Howlrunner" (18)
Academy Pilot (12)
Academy Pilot (12)
Total: 100

Decimators are a lot of fun and good for new players. They are very powerful ships.

This list should be doable with what you have.

Or if you really are upset, throw the list and try 3 Firespray 31 naked. Imagine your opponent's expresion and smile

Your list has a few problems imo.

Maarek in the old tie advanced is pretty much universally considered the worst buy in the game. I second that he needs to go.

The hlc does nothing for kaths ability. If you want a firespray lhc carrier with rerolls just go for Krassis. Personally i think the hlc is a bit akward on the firespray.

Mauler is ok, but if you don't want the ept then backstabber is probably the better choice.

I have a few suggestions..

The firespray makes a good and fun to fly centerpiece so lets keep it but change the upgrades.

Option 1

Boba, VI, gunner, EU (solid ace hunter and good at arc-dodging).

Option 2

Kath or boba, ptl, recon specialist, eu. (evade + 2 focus to turtle up or boost out of arcs and then grab the doubble focus, defensivly built.)

The firespray goes well with tie fighters or interceptors.

Try Kath in option 2 with backstabber and 3 ap.

good luck

That is actually close to a list I've played a few times, but uses the new X1 title.

Kath + Mangler + Gunner + Predator

Darth Vader + X1 Title + Advanced Target CPU + Engine + VI

Black Squadron Pilot + Draw Their Fire

Kath is a stress dealing machine that fits well in the current meta, able to tack on stress to PTL ships with ease (or deal crits with the mangler). The Black Squadron rolls with Kath to try and pull off damage. Vader is your high PS end game ship.

You can also replace Vader with with Carnor Jax + PTL + TC + Shield for even more control in the list, or Soontir Fel if you prefer. I actually think I like Jax the most in that place, since Kath already does a lot to take out arc Dodgers.

The crux of it is, your list lacked the upgrades to outplay people, which is necessary to win with a small number of ships. Swarms use superior numbers to win. Small ship count lists need arc dodging and control elements/super defense capabilities, otherwise they become lower fire power, lower durability jousting squads that never win the joust and get out played by arc dodging lists.

Try this:

Boba Fett + VI +HLC + Rebel Captive - 50 points

Rexler Brath +Predator+HLC+Stealth Device - 50 points

I am 10-2 with this list.

Kath with HLC is pointless - maybe mangler cannon would be better.

Ynot, how do you run that list? Keep them together? Let rexler flank? Very curious and I like that list.

Yes keep them together.

Boba goes in and TL's and strips shields or tokens and then Rexler fires. If at least 2 hits get past the shields I use the focus token to flip them.

I played a Chewie Leebo build and absolutely wrecked them both with crits. Neither of their abilities could do anything as Rexler flips them after being dealt.

They usually try to take Boba down but take stress for it anyway so it helps. Boba flying last is nice especially with his ability cause he can keep them in arc to shoot and get rid of tokens and shields. In all of my games that I did lose Rexler, it was only after Boba was gone(so my 2 losses). Rexler has stayed on the table to the end on the other ones and was a lot of fun to fly.

This build also wrecks interceptors usually stripping stealth device first or second round.

Of my 2 losses, one was a friendly game we played in a hotel lobby at a pool table and there were loads of kids running around so I was concentrating more on keeping my stuff than playing. The other loss was a game I threw playing my son in a Spring Tournament. He really wanted the ruler and it didn't matter to me so I flew Boba right at his BBBB+AC build and got wrecked. I won the other games during the day and came in second place for the tournament. I had highest MOV going in. I hadn't lost a ship until the final. I've beat him on many occasions so it didn't matter to me.

It is a surprisingly simple and effective build that doesn't really have issues with but a few builds. I started using stealth device on Rexler as I found I would lose him easily. Stealth device also has the added benefit of making them not want to shoot at him and waste their attack so they go after Boba and get stress. Once there are a few crits on each opponents ship, it really doesn't matter. The most I flipped in 1 go was 3 against Chewie. The look on the opponents face was priceless. None of us had ever seen that many crits on either Leebo or Chewie.

Rexler may be expensive points wise but if played with a support ship that shoots first to get rid of tokens/shields, he is very worth it as my opponents have found out. I also never shy away from K-turning the Firespray to keep the hlc pointed at them. most folks are used to the firespray flying away and coming back but I re-engage right away with the K turn. I won't have tl or focus but I get to shoot first and we all know how green dice are so more often than not it still does what it needs to so Rexler can deal some real pain.

This is by far my favourite build to date and I have multiples of almost all ships for all factions.

I forgot to mention that I usually do a focus action with rexler and keep it for defence unless I can deal at least 2 crits with it. I want to keep rexler alive as his white 4k turn is handy and combined with stealth device he manages to keep stealth device until later in the game if he loses it at all. I've only lost Stealth Device once on the first attack and that was because I had used the focus to deal crits.

2 Ships shooting 4 dice on attack is nothign to sneeze at. Just look how well the Super Dash build is working and that only has 1 hlc. This is double the pain.

Thanks for the run down! Absolutely going to play this list!

Though I might go mangler cannon on Boba Fett

The reason I went with HLC is that it allows Boba a better chance to strip shields/tokens and Stealth Device before Rexler shoots. The extra attack die with TL is IMHO worth the 7 points(3 extra from Mangler).

HLC is the Stealth Device stripper and with all the Interceptors with Stealth Device and autothrusters it really helps.
