Unofficially Official; SW Armada Wave 1, May 12th

By Enquiringnewt, in Star Wars: Armada

This thread (while interesting) is way off topic. Each time I look I hope for more info about Wave 1 releases but its just debating FLAGS :P

Well my Flag is better than your's. Let your freak flag fly!

Seriously though we won't hear anything more until the 12th most likely.

If the rumor is true, then FFG will probably update the Upcoming page to "Shipping Now" any day now.

In the meantime, what harm is there in going off topic? If ya'll really want me to start a new topic on FLGSs and their added-value for society, I'm happy to do so. ;)

Ughhh just worked out I've got $774 sitting in pre orders for Armada and X Wing... I didnt realise it had gotten so bad as I ordered when waves were announced. Bring on happy mail days!!

FFG updates their News feed 1-2 times a day, so that is likely going to be the first place where official confirmation shows up. It's the big link that says "News" at the top of the page.

You have no idea how disappointed I was that one of the "May the fourth" day posts was not star wars related....

I can't help but think they are intentionally snubbing armada at this point... The last Armada news update (significant anyhow, not dice related) was April 6, announcing wave II (don't even have wave I and they're teasing us already...)

Hell! they could have at least made the other post about Star Wars Assault, at least kept it all Star Wars related!

At this point I do believe "irked" is an appropriate word to describe my attitude towards FFG...

And yet FFG still finds time to update and inform us better than companies that only really deals with one or two games. So I am very ok with it.

(Also let's keep in mind May the Forth be with You is a just for giggles holiday that fans came up with and is about as serious as Talk Like A Pirate Day. (yep, that's a holiday in the fall.) So companies will almost never even know it is happening let alone focus on it. So FFG using this day to promote its Star Wars line is actually cool, not mandatory.)

This. I've been checking the News feed, but I think that FFG has done their two posts for the day.

This what?

The unofficial timeline has been given by our "source"... The only official ffg info will be given on the main page.

"This" == I was agreeing with MaverickNZ's sentiment.

I know you meant you agreed with him.

I'm a bit miffed at the idea that this thread veering off topic needs to be called out. As I said, ffg will post the release on the email page. This thread going off topic is irrelevant as the topic (date of release) has already been established.

Agree with Reiryc here. (I never thought I'd say that. :P)

There is not much to discuss or add to the OP since the Newt said it all and no one has anything new to add besides thanking Newt for the info. (Again thanks Newt)

So relax and feel free to ignore this thread, if there is any new info it will get its own new thread.

Now if you will excuse me I have to bath. I feel dirty agreeing with Reiryc. :D

I have my moments :)

One other benefit of ordering online, aside from the cost that hasn't been mentioned, is the availability.

I have never played a card game before (talking about magic, Pokemon, etc). I had seen a few guys playing Star Wars lcg last week and asked if they would teach me. It was pretty fun.

After the game I asked what would be needed to be competitive in games with them, but without my having to go tournament level of purchases since I won't be playing in a tournament. It came to 2 core sets, 2 edge of darkness expansions and 1 between the shadows expansion. Well the game shop didn't have multiples of anything.

So I ordered from coolstuff. Saved about $45 and got all 5 boxes with free shipping. Had I followed the game shop method I would have had to wait just to pay full price for when their order came in.

I bought a monthly release, heroes and legends from the store today though. I prefer a bit of balance and don't advocate all purchases from online retailers or all purchases from flgs.

I would rather be more like a mushroom.

The updates are too far out. Which can sometimes be counter productive, by the time the product becomes available it is so "ho hum" that I will then reconsider a purchase.

I just placed a large pre-order with a Canadian online store (1 of each ship, 2 of each squadron pack).

I bought it from my local gaming store for $72.23... Where do you live!?!

Well it will cost me full price to buy my minis from the FLGS but I want to give them the business I want them to make the money and stay open.

This. My game store provides space to play, and even runs organized play events every week. There is no excuse not to support them, at least not a good one, plenty of people like to make excuses...

Out of curiosity, where did you see these guys playing? And where do you plan on playing this card game in the future?

The group I was in was playing shadows of brimstone. Before we got started, I played the lcg. We started with 4 a few weeks ago, but added 2 more.

I plan on playing it either at his house or mine or depending on these guys I met, possibly over at one of theirs.

Not this. Plenty of people can't afford to buy many of these games for full msrp. It's not an excuse for many, it's a reality.

Not that I want to derail e thread, but if you play at a store that's still a BS excuse. You yourself said that you wanted 2 starter sets plus 2 more expansions for a game. So you buy less of it to start. Just because you don't get as much bang for your buck is not an excuse, well I guess it is, but it's a lame excuse. And if you really can't afford another $10-$20 for a game, then you probably shouldn't be spending your money on it in the first place,

That's pretty arrogant of you to decide what others should or should not spend their money on...

As far as buying less to start...just lmao! Nah, I'll just order online again in the future like I did for the lcg when I'm ready for my next purchase. :)

If you play at a game store, you should support that store, period. But like you said, you play in a basement right?

Ok, this discussion is getting too personal and needs a reality check.

I believe in supporting the LGS's you frequent but I will not get on others if they choose to spend their money online.

Luckily most gamers support their LGS's for many of their purchases. Right now more game stores in my area are growing and becoming more and more popular despite the growing online business. But yet I realize some of those game stores also support the games that sell there and if no one purchases a game no tournaments or leagues will be supported. That and if there is not enough room the space goes to the most popular games sold there. (Magic is the life blood of LGS's right now and get the prime tables on the best nights.)

So that is how it is and there is no need to argue over this.

Your area is lucky then. Because that is not the case for most places. I've seen a lot of good game stores go under in Missouri within the last 6-8 years, and I'm certain online retailers had a hand in most. Especially in St Louis, where a certain online retailer is located...

I guess I am not sure what is happening outside this part of the country.

Went to my LGS last night to buy a few random x0wing ships as I'm getting into it. They had 3 boxes in, none of which I was interested in. All for retail price. I wouldn't mind paying full price for things down there if they actually had them in stock, I'm not paying extra and waiting for delivery, then him to contact me. I'd rather order online and get them next day for 20% off, as a side note we also get charged entry to use the tables, on boards that the club which is separate from the store bought with club money.

You seem to think my comments are directly for you, when I was just using your comment as a buying example... You're free to shop where ever you like, just don't give people some weak excuse as to why you do it, because regardless, all excuses stink...

If you play at a game store, you should support that store, period. But like you said, you play in a basement right?

Some of your comments are directly for me... you asked me where I play, right? You didn't ask because you were just curious...

You are also under the impression that buying online as opposed to a game shop involves some sort of moral/ethical choice that needs to be 'excused' at all. I don't agree that there is any moral/ethical obligation to make purchases at a local game store whether one games there or not. So there is nothing to excuse. If you think you should support a game store where you play, great for you. But that opinion, can be reserved for yourself, not others. Period.
