Well, compare this:
to this:
Now mind you, as far as disco goes Odyssey Pt. 2 (the song in the second clip) isn't that bad of a song. It is, however, very much disco - a product of the seventies. Going with a timeless, epic sweep to the score keeps Star Wars from turning into Logan's Run.
Edited by DesslokThat was fun ! Remember the first Star Wars trailer in 1977.
The Cantina Music is swing dance music ![]()
I feel like that whole clip whafrog linked to was a set up for the last bit... you gotta admit, the 'slow ride' bit was pretty good...
So... I... Uhh... Well, you see....
Yuck.
Funny thing is, a lot of the Music for A new hope the Great Flanneled one used as a placeholder for the movies was Gustov Holst Planets symphony, the "Mars" movement was inspiration for the, now classic, Imperial March
John Williams gave Star wars it's emotions, just as Jerry Goldsmith did for Star Trek, and Christopher Franke did for Babylon 5
And try to imagine Blade Runner without Vangelis...
Or Halloween without John Carpenter's moody synth score. . . .

And I mean more than just the main theme, too. The quiet bits, the stalking bits - all some scary as hell stuff. But then I've always thought that Carpenter was just a good composer as he was a director - bits like he Escape from New York score is some top shelf stuff

Yeah, Slow Ride actually fit! Also, Pink Floyd was a good choice, just not GGitS for that particular scene. I can imagine "Breathe" playing when Luke looks out at the binary sunset ![]()
