New Raider preview focusing on TIE Advanced is up

By Danthrax, in X-Wing

Agreed. Im not saying that. Wedge is just such a priority target that you have to make the most of the attacks he gets. The longer he survives/more attacks he can get in a game, the better - true of everything, but magnified by the Wedginator's ability.

the wedgie-nator?

not sure if that just butchered or revitalized Wedge's viability

How has this turned into another bloody thread about the X-Wing. Seriously people. What the hell. Just stop already. Move on with your lives. For crying out loud.

We can fix this! How about if we discus how to fix ordnance instead?

But whats left to discuss once X-Wings and ordnance are fixed?

Tie Defenders, of course

E Wings....

Then probably whatever scum ships need love.

It'll be hard to buff E-wing generics without making corran even stronger.

eh...............

the X-wing itself has a really horrid defensive profile that I don't think can stand up to the deluge of fat turrets and the popularity of HLC

unless the pilot has a potent defensive ability (Luke, Tarn, and indirectly Biggs) their usefulness is by no means a guarantee

Between 3 agility and the evade action, the Tie advance had the opposite problem (its offensive could be best described as "adorably ineffective") which has thankfully been taken care of.

Regardless of the merits of the X-wing and its needed fix though, I'll say this: the Tie Advance has been worse off for longer :P

Agreed. The advanced fix is great and makes the advanced much more likely to see play.

The X is my favorite SW ship and the advanced has always had a place in my heart too. Ironically they have become sort of barometers of the meta; both multi-role, capable but not outstanding, both slightly out of place with advances since wave 1 and competition from other more specialized ships.

The wave 1 ships, the Y, Advanced and now the X have been improved. Hopefully the X Wing fix, in whatever form that takes, will bring the X back into the game as well as this fix has for the advanced.

you forgot the other "A" ship :D

it took a bit, but FFG has gotten to every Wave 1 ship sans the core set ships (and if you ever want to make someone keel over with laughter, suggest tte need for a tie fighter fix :P)

Well, we are getting that Twin Ion Engine upgrade. Maybe that'll be the TIE Fighter fix ;)

I know right 3 years to fix tie fighters is such a joke man FFG are worse that GW!!!!!!!

E Wing and Defender both suffer the same underwhelmingness (its a word, honest!), but defenders arent living in the shadow of their named pilots as much as E Wings are.

Much as I get that FFG might not want us to spam generic ships, I dont understand why the generics often end up so overpointed. It seems like a pretty clumsy way of doing things and leads to all 'this' (points to every thread about *insert ship name* suxxxors!). What is it that FFG see in the generics that we dont?

Colzet is going to be badass in Epic games. Crits on huge ships are extra nasty.

What is it that FFG see in the generics that we dont?

I have just assumed that they are still feeling burned by the early wave dominance of the academy pilot. For the first half of the game's life nobody ever played named pilots except howlrunner (an exaggeration, but not much of one). So they started trying to skew things the other direction. Now the pendulum has swung the other way a bit.

Probably has to do with tie swarms being so dominant at first, that was as close to broken this game got which is why we saw the phantom turn up.

Balancing a game is as much art as science and you can never predict what some smart sod will see you missed, but they actively try and thats a big reason we all love FFG.

You thrice damned ninja beat me by seconds.

But the academy was just points efficient. The X Wing has been inefficient since wave 1 and ironically was released alongside the TIE fighter.

The Z is also efficient in its own right and B Wing lists work pretty well as they are also one of the more efficient ships in the game, which explains their return to popularity with the phantom errata.

Like you said; art over science. In an ideal world every ship would be points efficient and there wouldnt be any imbalance.

We can but dream :P

In the meantime we can complain and poke FFG till they satisfy our unceasing demand for perfection :D

I guess it made some sense from a perspective

Xwings are all being heroes whilevties are expendable faceless goobers

Might explain the difference in generics :P

I think my second favorite is actually Alozen, because of the synergy with FRC.

Well.. I dont play GW games..

Good for you. Not one of the Dark Side you are. But I beg to differ concerning your praise of wiggle room. In my experience, hard choices make for a good game.

Then you must really HATE x-wing...

Between boost, barrel roll, boba Fett, navigator, stay on target, phantoms, SLAM, turrets, Nara, inertial dampeners, etc there are literally scores of combinations of ways to make your dial choice change or irrelevant after you set your dial.

All I see is whine for the sake of whine

I want my X-Wing back. You list a lot of add-ons which changed the game for the worse. I don't like the direction this is going. Reigning in the Phantom was a step forward. Juno Eclipse is a step backwards.

Your X-Wing never existed. You were able to modify your position after revealing a dial in the core game.
