What is your favorite mission and why?

As someone only having played regular 100-point dog fights so far and curious about missions, I don't know exactly where to start. So what are your favorite missions? Which are the most fun to play?

We are currently playing through all the missions at our local club. We just started with mission one in the rule book and worked through. Each one has been interesting so far - they definitely make you think differently to a normal dog fight. The shuttle one was really challenging, and the imperial aces took a bit of thinking too. I would recommend working through all of them.

Are you talking FFG's "official" missions... as provided with the core and expansion packs...?

The answer would be E) "None of the above", because most of them show a lack of imagination or are just "ehhh".

If you are talking fan-made scenarios... then Dagobah Dave's Trench Run scenario is the best EVER... by far! It is probably the only mission/scenario that really captured the suspense, excitement, drama and shear "Epic-ness" of Star Wars, IMO

I agree, perhaps the Trench Run is the most climatic scenario. Invest some time making a trench diorama is a time well spent

Have you actually played them? I was dubious, but actually they generally work fine.

The FFG missions are fine, but generally too gimmicky for my taste. There are some that are better and some that are worse, but I like missions to have a firm grounding in the 'reality' of Star Wars.

I've worked hard to build a library of thematic, reasonably balanced, fun missions over on Mission Control. I'm happy to say that most people who try them seem to really enjoy them; you may like to take a look. Just go to the browse screen on mission control and put my name in. You might like Raid on Fondor, or Gamma Base, or Attack Run; those are some of my more popular scenarios.

yes, i have played all the various FFG missions... some were definitely better than others. I liked the ones that came with the Rebel CR-90 corvette but found the Hoth mission from the GR-75 transport nearly impossible for the Rebels, which doesn't really bother me as a wargamer (hell... war is inherently "unfair") but for those who insist on balance and a "fair fight", i didn't feel that it was very balanced or fair. Mission #7 Cutting the Cord (Imperial Aces) was actually one of the most fun FFG missions I played but is a little silly, from a certain perspective.

Another non-FFG mission/scenario I have gotten a lot of use out of is called Refinery Raid (don't know who the author is) which is a great little scenario for two 100-pt forces but provides context and purpose, which I find somewhat lacking in the "official" missions.

Oh, how true. I played that Hoth mission with my son-in-law and those mines were devastating. Still not sure how I could have won it. Still, it is fun to play missions. I've enjoyed some from Babaganoosh; in fact 3 of us are going to try "Honor Among Thieves" this weekend.

Cool! I'd love to hear how it goes; always looking for player feedback.

Where is the refinery raid mission? Is it on mission control? I can't find it.

Also, if you're looking for an asymmetric scenario, you may want to take a peek at my "Customs station AX-412-D" mission. It's a bit unorthodox, and maybe unwieldy, but tries to capture the feel of the Rebels being outnumbered and using guerilla tactics to win the day instead of taking on the Empire in a straight-on fight. That said, it's not exactly a concise scenario.

Ooh...3 Transports???!!! That could be a bit tougher. It does look interesting though.

Too bad Mission Control doesn't have a decent search engine. I'd sure like to search using my collection, so I at least only look at those missions that I could actually play.

Yeah, MC isn't very user friendly when it comes to looking for missions. It's hard to tell what missions are well written, and what kind of game they will be, etc etc. it could do with a major update, frankly. But it serves well for the time being.

3 transports is a bit of an ask, in retrospect! It would probably be tough for most players to muster that many GR75s. Something for me to remember in the future. In fact I was brainstorming today for scenarios to publish alongside the release of the imperial raider, and ended up putting one cool idea on the back burner for that same reason. I was thinking it would be cool to have a scenario where a Raider jumps into the middle of 3-4 rebel transports, and tries to kill as many as it can while the rebel escort ships try to defend. But 3-4 transports is a lot to ask for, so I'm working on other ideas for now.
