So I have been experimenting with a new list. 4 x A-wings (led by Jake)
A is for Autothrusters - 100points
Jake Farrell [PS7] (24) - 31 points
- A-Wing Test Pilot (0)
- Autothrusters (2)
- Chardaan Refit (-2)
- Push the Limit (3)
- Expose (4)
Green Squadron Pilot [PS3] (19) - 23 points x 3
- A-Wing Test Pilot (0)
- Autothrusters (2)
- Chardaan Refit (-2)
- Push the Limit (3)
- Adrenaline Rush (1)
Strategy: Stay out of the enemies arch or at range 3 wherever possible and maximise the shooting opportunities that are presented with out forgoing your defences. Defences are pretty obvious with a PTL to focus/evade, outside of arch allowing 'Autothrusters' to give you a maximum chance of defence.
I played the list today at a club tournament and came 4th overall I think. Probably not as relevant as the matches themselves which were all close matches that resulted in win/loss's on time. There were always A-wings on the table at the end of every game. I should note that the list I played today had 'Draw their fire' instead of 'Adrenaline Rush', which saw no action at all and Outmanoeuvre on Jake instead of Expose.
The Autothruster just revolutionises the A-wing. Coupled with the A-wing test pilot title card to give it an extra Elite pilot talents to give it so many options and variations. In conjunction with Push the limit focus/evade being the primary use on todays matches. Smart flying meant the 4 A-wings saw time on every battle win or lose. They still only have 2 hull/shields but this is almost irrelevant versus the sheer amount of evades turned by 'Autothrusters' and the rest of the defence offered by 3 defence dice with focus and an extra evade token.
The A-wings just dominated with their ability to forever dodge all range of attacks. You certainly could feel the pain as the little A-wings chased Decimators, Falcons with ease. Not an understatement. With the right skills this list is very competitive. Having 'Adrenaline Rush' means an effective 5 or 3 K turn after the initial furball to maximise the dice on any important targets while Jake is boosted at any point with Expose.
I'm definitely going to field test it before regionals and all going well, may take it to one. Anyway what do people think of it?
