Paid to Protect vs. Combo, vs. Keyword abilities later on in text boxes (i.e. not on the top as most are found)

By dutpotd, in UFS Rules Q & A

Hi, Paid to Protect reads the following:

E Commit, reveal your hand: This attack gets -X damage (minimum 1). X equals the total number of keywords on cards in your hand.

1) Most combo cards will have the Combo () keyword at the top of the card's text box and then a similar iteration later in the text box as Combo E:

By my count that is one (not two) keyword on said card, i.e. "Combo ()" is a keyword ability, but "Combo E:" is simply an enhance that can only be played if the keyword ability is activated by the relative state of the card pool. Please confirm or deny this understanding.

2) The other case I want to check out is a Paid to Protects interaction with something like The Man behind the Mask. Said card has a "Desperation E:" ability on it.

My understanding is that this card also counts as having one ( not no ) keyord on it, namely the "Desperation X" keyword ability. The confusion here would be that this use of "Desparation X" is in the bottom half of the text box refering to a requirement to play an ability, as opposed to the oft found "Desperation X" found at the top of cards refering to a requirement to play the card (i.e. the difficulty). Please confirm or deny my understanding of this as well.

Thank you!

I agree that Combo (Weapon, Kick) is only one keyword.

If I also understand correctly, Combo E is the same as All E and First E; they are simply restrictions and not keywords.

So if you reveal a Punch - Combo (Weapon) and it has a Combo E, it's -2 (-1 for Punch, -1 for Combo (Weapon)).

remember that character based keywords DON'T show up on the card unless your playing that character.

I wouldn't think that Man Behind the Mask would be considered to have a keyword. It doesn't have anything in the Keyword section of the card, only a keyword in the Text area.

It's not exactly the same, but I'm hard-pressed to find a line of reasoning that would allow Man Behind the Mask to be counted, but not (for example) the instances of the keyword "Punch" in the text box of Boxing is Life.

Keywords are defined in the rules as the ones on top of the textbox. Of course there are few things to consider. As stated above in pictures, Combo (Kick, Weapon, Punch) is only one keyword, and if you're not playing the character, keywords that begin with the character name do not exist for any other character.

Of course this makes me wonder about the old promo Mai with Paid to Protect in Legacy... since all attacks get Stun:2, I'm assuming she gives at least -X where X is the number of attacks, then more damage reduction if they originally had more keywords.

lol that means chain throw would give -4 by itself
