No StarVipers at the tables, no StarViper talk ....

By TheRealStarkiller, in X-Wing

Tie pilot costume here.

I'll try scum eventually. They just need a bit more variety.

I don't dislike Rebels, and I love y-wings, A-wings and B-wings.

Traitor!!

You have been reported to imperial intelligence. You have 48 hours to report to detention block 1138 or we will be forced to send a squad up for you.

Uh, everything's under control. Situation normal.

Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?

Who is this? What's your operating number!!

Problem is that i don't play scum very much as I am primarily imperial. Guri is **** good though.

This.

But I would play Black Sun. Still Need to pick up a most wanted for the Z's though.

And I would play the Zann Concortium.

Maybe if there will be an ace pack in some dark future... with Zann StarVipers

... and Skiprays are needed, as well.

I really think the aggressor is the phantom of wave six it's grabbed all the attention from other ships.

But I don't see duel iggy winning as often as phantom lists it's fun but I've killed it more than a dozen times now and only lost once.

I used Guri at a Regional and placed within the top 20 out of 64 and a friend of mine used Xizor and got in the top ten so there is that. .

However, we were the only ones using a StarViper . . .

IGs with AT really are annoying.

But I made the experience that they really hate Defenders with HLC + Outmaneuver ;)

The Star viper is in my opinion a solid ship. Remember all the kerfuffle about people saying it is better than the TIE Defender in every way?

It's a 5 hitpoint agility 3 shootiness 3 ship with some good slots.

With Virago it has some pretty terrifying options.

Scum themselves have the best filler ships in the game (sorry, but Z95 feedback arrays make interceptor pilots @#$% bricks).

Also a Star Viper can be part of any scum build that isn't the same boring 2 aggressors.

Agressors are rather good, with ptl and advanced sensors they can happily turtle up then bump, and with AT they are hard to get through at range 3.

Agressors are why I added flechette torps, as they hate being stressed, and are very hard to block with adv boost.

Ultimately, as mentioned previously, the starviper isnt the Tie Interceptor that people were expecting, and much like a few other ships the design of it is either like it or not, and doesnt fit the design of the ships from episodes 4-6 (though it shouldnt, as its designed by an alien rather then imperials or rebels).

Both Guri and Xizor are decent pilots with decent abilities.

I'll admit to being rather disapointed with Xizor's ability when I first read it, but having used it, its very nice, especially with a swarm of 5 headhunters to absorb the damage.

At our May the 4th event it was remarked that I'm the only person who uses the Viper in our local meta. I use Guri to great effect and I use her very often but it is one of the least played ships in Scum in the Mississauga/Toronto area.

as mentioned, Viktus106 and I were at a 60 person regional and the only people with a starviper in our lists.

eh,

you squint hard enough and anything can look like anything

booze also helps :P

I've never regretted waking up the morning after an X-Wing game, though.

I have. After store championships, my knees were KILLING me.

Not sure if you meant this the way it sounded in my head but I LoL Ed so hard xD thanks for making my hour :P

Didn't even consider the dirty implications when I typed that. For the record it was because of STANDING all day

I used Guri very well in my last tourney. Never got destroyed (well, no ships of mine did), and found some good flanking/range 1 shots.

Also, I don't understand why anyone doesn't like the ship design. I think it's one of the coolest looking ships in the game, and totally unique - compared to everything Imperial, for example.

"I used Guri very well in my last tourney."

Phrasing boom!

The only thing that puts me off Guri is her PS of 5, but I may have to take her out for a spin.

And I don't understand how anyone with functioning vision can think it's a good looking ship. It looks like a mashup of an insect (a giant mosquito comes to mind...and mosquitos suck) and a generic sci fi starfighter (ie nothing special that we haven't seen before)...mainly it looks like a giant bug some minor character and his supporters want to pass off as "art."....at least a TIE fighter is instantly recognizable as star wars...it's design is truly unique and hasn't been copied and pasted anywhere else...ask anyone not familiar with shadows of the empire or even someone (such as myself) who read it only once many years ago if the "star bug" looks like it belongs in star wars and I would eager you would get a resounding no...

Seems we cancel each other out.

EDIT TO CLARIFY: and by unique in regards to the TIE fighter I am talking about the TIE line in reference to other sci fi series. The TIE ships are SUPPOSED to be somewhat identical...it fits the way the empire fights...The different variants are just different takes on the same thing...

The StarViper IS a nice looking ship.

Its beauty cannot be appreciated by functioning eyes solely, you also need artistic sense.

BTW, its designer tried precisely to make it resemble a menacing, living organism... And by the above post, it seems he succeeded.

The Star Bug would be epic in star wars...

... smegheads

Virago had four adjustable wings and thrust nacelles that moved constantly during flight, which created the illusion that Virago was a strange, living creature.

As has been discussed before, and will be again, the Star Viper isn't imperial, or rebel. Its created to a different design aesthetic, which is why it looks so different and alien.

I bent my wings back so it is flying in cruising mode, similar to this.

So many people came up to be during the regionals and asked me how I had done it, and that it looked so much better then the current butterfly/starfish version. The main reason I did it was because I prefer my ships on 1 peg :D

Mosquitoes are far from menacing...they do suck however and are very annoying...as far as "artistic sense"...people will see "beauty in paint splashed randomly on walls and talk about the "brilliance" of the painter...they cannot be convinced otherwise...

I'll contend again that it is the most horrific ship I have ever seen and I am sad it has managed to infect this game...I do however take solace in it's lack of play =)

And no I am not exaggerating!! (still grumbling my inner contortionist will eventually force me to buy one...and then I'll have to play it cause I bought it...but dammit I will enjoy watching it explode)

And it actually looked somewhat passable like that...

I still find the ship itself super silly...but your take on it is not half bad...

Alright settle down.

It looks far less "bug-like" than the Aggressor, from my point of view and just about everyone else I've played with. IG's ship is one of the most boring and disappointing ships in terms of appearance. Everyone just calls it the Scarab.

You can't argue about iconic ships because half the ships in this game have never seen the silver screen, and by default won't be recognized. I didn't mess around with any EU crap save for some video games. I still think it looks menacing and cool on the board, I don't care if it's not totally novel in terms of spaceship design, it's unique compared to other X-Wing designs. That's why I like the rebel faction, because their ships are all different shapes, colors, etc.

Yeah the aggressor was a bit of a turn off for me too...but it just doesn't rub me as bad as the "star bug"

I can see where you are coming from and am glad to have the engagement

You are still wrong though =p

The fevered opinions are strong with this one.

Anything that brings something new and different to the table instantly wins me over - whether it's through looks (Most rebel ships), unique gameplay (Emon), or both (StarViper). The s-loop on a small fighter is really beneficial and much easier to judge than on IG. It would have been cool if they made the foils collapsible, but they seem stingy about moving parts (there would have been a riot if they released shuttle and the wings didn't open).

I'll contend again that it is the most horrific ship I have ever seen and I am sad it has managed to infect this game...I do however take solace in it's lack of play =)

great, first we got invaded by howl and now by turrets :P

I think we can say, though, that if it's a horrid looking thing that doesn't play horridly, you can at least take pleasure in absolutely destroying it

Can't do that with the object of my hate, sadly. They're no fun from the moment they hit the table :( The fact that I like the actual Star Wars ships that were unjustly butchered by poor rules implementations only makes it far worse for me.

So, guess what 'm saying is, Starvipers could be much much worse :)

Howl? Turrets?

Man the X-wing needs fixing :-)

Also the TIE Defender is overpriced.

Ordnance needs fixing too.

Moving on, the Star Viper is divisive in it's looks sure, so was the TIE Defender.

Myself, rather like it.
