I, also, wish it had the evade action. There are times when you just can't get out of arc. Combined with FCS, it would make him so efficient.
No StarVipers at the tables, no StarViper talk ....
I agree that the best defence is not to be there but sometimes it just isn't possible, you are going to be targeted at some point and when the Viper can cost 40 + points, you would expect it to survive more than two ships firing at it. This is especially true when talking about Prince Xizor who most of the time has to weigh up between arc dodging (if not going against a turret of course) and potentially not having an attack modifier (assuming no PtL), or staying with his lackeys so he can actually use his ability.
The greens on the dial are not great, 1 bank, 1, 2 & 3 straights. That is it. Not exactly the easiest dial to use PtL with so it would be nice to have the added benefit of an evade action.
When you take all this into consideration, it is amazing that we even see the Viper on tables at all considering that for 36 points standard, you can take an Aggressor and get better stats/actions/dial and options for roughly the same points.
I will keep flying Guri regardless and will be doing so again at the Nationals this weekend and it is highly likely I will be the only one. That is pretty sad considering how good the ship looks.
anyone try
Torkil + Ion + Intel agent and three enforcers?
I flew 3 Vigos with Autothrusters and a Black Sun Soldier the other night in a friendly game against a Corran/Leebo build. I was pretty surprised by how well the Vipers performed. I did lose one eventually, but it took a lot more punishment than I expected to. You'd think I would realize how good 3 green dice plus Autothrusters can be having played a ton of Aggressor, but there you go.
I want to play more Vipers now, but need to find a squad to put multiples of them into. I like the idea of the Xizor and meatshields squad, but the stock Viper is surprisingly good.

Went 4-2 in a tournament with this build.
I would say that this is one build that actually like facing turrets: enough firepower to take it down, a good defense (3 dice+AT) to mitigate the damage and maneuvrable enough to keep the turret ship in line instead of seeing it boost out of arc.
I don't usually like flying the same thing twice, but I could definetly see me taking it out again for another spin. That's how fun it was to fly.
Yeah, I'm definitely going to have to give it another go. One game wasn't enough for me to get a good feel for what it is capable of, but I sure did enjoy flying it. You certainly don't fear turrets with that many Autothrusters. I rolled quite a number of "statistically balanced" defense rolls (1 evade, 1 blank, 1 focus) that magically became 3 evades when I spent my focus token.
What were your losses against? I'm wondering how the Viper performs against more traditional fighters.
One loss was against a dual IG list, the other vs BBBBZ.
Against the dual IG list, I made the error of splitting my arc and keeping too far away during the initial approach, I played in his strenght. By the time I tried to came back, it was already too late. I did beat another dual IG list the same day 100-0, so I think my defeat is more about being outplayed by a better player than the build itself.
Against BBBBZ, it was very interesting and the heads-up I was looking for the most. First round of engagement in range 3 went great, but then I failed miserably the next round, I got blocked by a nice positionning from my opponent part. In the end, it was my last SV (3hull) vs 2 B 1 Z, with one of his B at 2 Hull. I managed to arc dodge his B and Z with a boost that placed me at range 1 of his 2 Hull B, I fired 4 dice at PS3, got one hit he dodged 0, then he fired back at PS2 and got 4 hit (he was F+TL so it was to be expected) versus my 0 evade. If I did destroyed it before he had to shot back, it would have been my last SV versus 1 B and 1 Z. It would not have been easy, but I know I could have pull the victory. Overall, I think it is a good counter vs BBBBZ. With some more practice with the build against swarm, it could definetly hold hos ground.
So, I blame my 2 defeat more on my lack of experience than the build itself.

Am I the only one who got 4 of them?

I actually have 6. Granted only would ever fly a tops of 4 at at time for non epic, but A: epic and B: bomber escort is a common scenario.
Won my Local X-wing night last night with Xizor and 5 Z's Killed Chirpy/Whisper and a Han/Dash with it
Lowly Z killed off Whisper in the end, Xizor punched 3 through in one shot, then stipped a focus and evade token with his dying return fire at Range 1, then the lowly Z cleaned up!
I think It may also be the list I take to UK Nationals in a few days time.
How many players attended?
How often did you use Xizors ability? Would you change your list at all?

Do you think the 3 Vigos + a Black sun is better than just running Xizor, Guri, and an Enforcer? I tend to think that the two special abilities and higher PS might make up for the lack of a Z.
Hard to say, the Z can be useful to block and still do some damage here and there.
I did considered Guri with 2 Vigo with Autothrusters. In a 3 SV team, I would not bothered with Xizor, I don't think his ability would be useful.
Thinking about it, I might try this version:
Guri+Lonewolf+Autothrusters
Black Sun Enforcer+Autothrusters (2x)
Binayre Pirate
You add Guri in the team at the cost of the 3 other ship dropping to PS1. It could be very interesting to try.

I flew pred, thruster guri, AS, thruster, pred xisor and ps1 viper a lot. for some reason its really good. Haven't tried 4 naked yet. the 3 vigo plus enforcer list seems odd to me. is the ps bump with vigos worth it?
btw: try this. Its so good and insanely fun to fly. One point more would be nice for VI on either kavil or x, though. it has a shot vs a lot of meta stuff out there, and like a lot of viper lists is a lot stronger than it looks on paper.

Depends on what you expect to face-up.
In my case, I went up against, and expected, a lot of Blue Squadron, Syndicate Thug and Predator. So it was worth it to take the Vigos instead of the Enforcers.

I've only flown the three viper list once, but I liked it and plan to give it more play, I ran Xizor with VI and AdV, and I really like that build with him.
So I ran 5 Pirates, Xizor + VI + Title + FCS + Dampeners and Thrusters at UK Nationals. 5-1 in Swiss to come 9th and make the cut. Sadly lost in Cut to a 8 Z swarm, killed 4 but my dice rolled pretty badly in the first two rounds of combat where he only had 5 Z's in with one of those being Range 3 and went down hill from there, had I managed to drop a 5th and run Xizor tho.
Still, Xizor to top 16 in a Nationals - say he is bad now community.
Awesome! You do a Battle Report?
Any advice on facing Rear Admiral Soontir? Or Bro Bots?
I might try dropping 2 Z-95's to get a Y-wing w/ Autoblaster and upgrade the other 3 Z's to Black Sun's.
I havn't personally been impressed with warthogs in the current enviroment
they seem to go down faster than an equivalent point of Zs to both fatties and mini-swarms.
In regards to Xizor, I don't think I'd deviate from the 4/5 Z + Xizor list until the YV-666 comes out. That ship has some amazing potential, all that's left is to verify its cost and dial.
In regards to Guri, well she can go anywhere she feels like ![]()

No, Didn't really have time, the went 2 rounds then a short break, 2 rounds. slightly longer break, 2 rounds.
In the first round I played Double IG - funny enough a local player too - Won on last shot of the round. IG's had Wingman so were very tricky to keep track of.
Second round was vs Biggs, Luke and Wedge. Biggs had the droid that allows you to force enemy rerolls if you have a target lock, Luke had R2, Lone wolf and ion torps and sat out on a flank and Wedge was with biggs and had Ion torps and a few other bits. I one shot Luke, then One shot Biggs then One shot Wedge, fast brutal game.
Third game was Chirpy Fel. Fel was as you'd expect. Chirpy was Expose, Isard, Experimental and.... I forget what else, no Engine upgrade tho. I went for Fel first but that come up bad so I turned on to Chirpy and dropped him for the Win.
Fourth Game was vs 3 Bandits and Han with.... I know it had Luke and 3po I forget what the EPT was and if it had any Modification. I think EPT may of been PTL and the falcon had the title. Took out the 3 Z's while Han missed all those rounds of combat because of a Rock then turned on Han and took the Win.
Fifth game was vs 58 Dash + Corran. Stupidly went after Corran first and but my opponent played smart and kept him running while Dash took shots. By the TIme I turned on Dash it was too late, I got dash to 3 Hull and time was called with 1 Z remaining. My first and only Loss of the day - Had I thought about it I'd of went Dash first - I mean why wouldn't I? Stupid Fatigue - As Xizor + a Z would of won me that on Time.
Last game of Swiss was vs a list that had been following me up the tables all day 3 Naked Blues and Jake Farrel with VI + PTL + Title + Proton Rockets and I believe Thrusters or Stealth. - It was a fun game Jake came in on the Flank while the B's floated in a corner so I turned on Jake but he proved to be good at rolling evades so turned in to the Joust with the B's. I got very lucky with evades on Xizor as 2 range 1 B's and a Range 2 B followed by Proton Rockets to leave Xizor on 2 hull and passing a lot of hits and crits off to Z's. I knew if Xizor lived I would win as I had dropped 2 B's by that point and knowing I was out of Arc of the Final B I slammed on Dampeners and Jake ran right in to Xizor securing the Win. He took a Z down and I took the last B out with a Minor Explosion Critical that finished it off.
Finishing 9th in the Swiss with 5-1.
First round of Cut I met one of the two lists I didn't want one, One was a Falcon Outrider list both with Predator thankfully I dodged that one, but I did meet a 8 Z95 Rebel Swarm, 4 PS2 and 4 PS4.
I managed to get the first 2 rounds of combat with only 5 of his Z's in and one of them being at Range 3. Sadly my Dice did not roll well and I didn't get the trades I needed. I ended up killing 3 PS2 Z's and one PS4, if I had killed one more and managed to live till time (about 5-10 minutes left at this point) I'd of won. Xizor did extremely well surviving 3 rounds on his own vs 5 Z's before dying to the last PS2 Shot of the round when all 3 dice came up blank. I would not of flown this game differently, just dice came up bad.
Good weekend, good fun. Shame our 2 "unique" lists had to meet in the first round of Cut, shame we didn't get a chance to knock 2 of the 14? 2 ship builds out - I watched the Z swarm lose against the eventual winner the next round two IG's but the Ig's only killed 2 Z's then ran. - The Corran Dash I mentioned earlier also made the cut, I would of loved another pop at that one!
Rear Admiral Soontir - Go for Admiral first, just pile in to him then worry about Fel, anything dodgy, just forget about it, take the easier kill/s first and hope at least Xizor + 1 Z survives to Time, it's usually enough for a full or modified.
Bro bot's try your best to focus one down, if B is in there and it's HLC + FCS take B first, if It's C and D (or just not B) Take C down first especially if it's Adv sensors/Thrusters. Need to remove that Free evade.
I used to run this as 3Z Ion Warthog + Same Xizor, I got 34 out of 80ish in Regionals - 5 Z's are better.
I am thinking of making it 4 PS3 Z's with Feedback + Same Xizor. Mainly due to the High Agi/Arc Dodgers and the PS2/PS4 swarm made me rethink the Pilot Skill.
Edited by KovuTalliThanks for the write up. I might have to try that 4 Z list, too. I'm sure I'd do more damage vs. bro bots at times than my dice do with 2 shots.
Well if you can feedback one twice with all Z's you kill it. Which if you can block it and stay out of arc with other 3, easily done.
Hey KovuTalli, I was very interested to see where you would finish at the National as I was the other StarViper player. (Guri and 5 pirates).
I managed to win against a duel IG list in my first game only to lose to the Han and three Bandits which you played against. I tried to kill the Bandits quickly but by the time I managed it, I had lost three Pirates and just didn't have enough to chew through Han. I was getting a little annoyed at the:
Roll three dice, reroll with Han. I dodge, Luke kicks in, reroll with Han, change one focus to hit . . . . Guri just couldn't dodge all that. .
I then lost to a three Interceptor list. Despite causing Soontir to bump three times in a row and having Guri at range 1 and two headhunters at range 2 on all three occasions, I didn't do a single point of damage. That was 22 red dice that did zero damage . . was not impressed. I lost two headhunters and that was the game.
Very annoying.
