That list looks very familiar.... ![]()
No StarVipers at the tables, no StarViper talk ....
Because I have no self control in regards to X-wing, I just got a third Starviper so I can fly three naked with two Z-95s.
Today I flew three Starviper Enforcers, and two Z-95 Binayre Pirates, all naked for 99 total.
Performed admirably and won against XXXY, then defeated by scum Boba and Kath with some hot one-shots that hosed my 'vipers quick. Flew again against the same player/list and crushed losing just one 'viper IIRC. I was able to get in some good debilitating blocking against the large-based ships.
Overall, it was a fun list that I'll try some more tomorrow, but probably not very competitive if you are tourney-minded.
edit: poor grammar on my part
Edited by stuffedskullcatMy first post! Hi everybody! I just flew my first Starviper (Guri) against my wife on Saturday. I'm a new player (played about 12 times so far) and my wife is WAY better than I am. Nonetheless, I finally managed to beat her so-called "Master List" with Guri. The opening rounds were terrible for Guri, though. 2nd turn she took shield damage on a lucky range 3 shot from a rookie X-Wing. On turn 3, Jake nailed her with 2 crits (one ended up being a direct hit) and I had all blanks.
With only 1 hull left and in a fur ball, I thought Guri was basically lost; man, was I wrong. Her defensiveness and maneuverability went into high gear. My wife spent the next several turns trying her best to get that last hull point, but Guri proceeded to absolutely demolish her list - she took out the rookie X-wing and Horton Salm before going down to Jake. That gave me time to get the rest of my list into position and eventually was able to win the battle. I definitely have more respect for the Star Viper now. It's become my second favorite ship next to the Firespray.
Just came back from a 16 player tourney and placed in Top 2 (I say Top 2 because we did not have time for the final, so called it a draw).
I was running:
Black Sun Vigo + Autothrusters
Black Sun Vigo + Autothrusters
Black Sun Vigo + Autothrusters
Black Sun Soldier
I really didn't knew how it would go since I never played it before, but it did surprisingly well. The Starviper has a wonderful dial that allows it to be very sneaky. They're not very forgiving though, so you're on the edge of your seat all game long, kinda like with an Interceptor list. Just the kind of list that I love!
Yknow if this ship was any better or more powerful, it mightve been the anti-turret platform all of us small ship lovers were looking for.
Atm, perhaps that honor goes to the auto carrying IGs. Who die incredibly slow deaths and are also 2 big fat ships.
I love the StarViper, but I'll only ever use one of them. Without the Illicit or Systems slots that comes from the unique title, it's not nearly as effective.

Now thats interesting! You used the Vigos? Thats almost like someone uses Avenger Interceptors...
I used Xizor + VI + FCS + Thrusters + Title + Dampeners + 3 Z and a Warthog Y, came 34th out of 70-80 players (forget how many we had in attendance and how many dropped)
Went 3 and 3.
First round was a win vs a Chewbo list, Ate Chewie in 2/3 rounds Y-wing did 4 damage in one turn! Leebo went down shortly after, Mangler Leebo too so much easier to deal with than a HLC smashing my Low Agi Swarm.
Second round was a loss vs a really tanky Kenkirk + 2 Academys and Naked Howl. - Due to set up I decided to try and pop ties first, I had to shoot everyhing at each one before I One shot an academy then Howl, but I flew really poorly and got bumped up/stressed by Mara Jade. Kenkirk also had Ruthlessness and Isard, so very offensive and very tanky. Last round came down to the last roll of the dice, Kenkirk had 6 Hull left, Xizor and a Z got full hits on it but Kenkirk dodged two and one Crit came up double damage, so one Hull off the kill!
Third round was a loss vs a list I had played previously in the Store Champs, Dual Mercs with HLC + Rec Spec + Predator and feedback. A nightmare for my list as the HLC + Rec + Pred rips the Z's apart in 2 shots each, Max. (Unless 4 blanks but very rare)
Killed one and got the other to 5 hull. Had some pretty bad dice and Xizor got feedbacked on 1 Hull after pumping 4 damage in to a Spray, Very tough list to fly against but a lot of fun!
Fourth Round was vs a Dash Chewie list, Chewie was Pred + Title and Dash was Pred + HLC + Rec Spec (not again!) + Title, Due to set up I had to go for Chewie first, and with Dash having a donut hole Xizor could easily sit in that once Chewie was down. After 3 rounds of shooting with everything, I had done a total of 5 damage to Chewie (Insane green rolls! And my Reds abandoned me!)
Eventually took Chewie down but it was just Xizor by that point and Dash took him down with a full HLC blast - Was still 20 minutes left too so plenty of time to abuse that Donut hole Oh well!
Fifth Round was vs a BBBBZ - a tough fight and sure to be a furball in the middle. - I luckily got him scared of Xizor who I floated out to the flank but then barrel rolled him back in to the swarm as he turned his B's after Xizor, A tough fight in the middle saw me pull out the win on Points with only a enemy B and Z left standing vs my Xizor and 2 Z's.
Last Swiss Round saw me vs a Friend who was running 3 B's with Wedge with R2F2 and Stay on Target. We decided to have a gentlemans joust with my Z's and Xizor pushing a lot of damage through while his B's failed to hit. Sadly the Y-wing was focused down but Xizor slapped Wedge for 4 Natural hits at range one and the Z's cleaned him up.
I love Xizor, he is amazing. I Just wish I could find better support for him, I am hoping of running him with some of the new Scum fighters once Wave 7 is out altho they seem to be basically X-wings 3 attack and 2 agi.
I would love to run Xizor + 3 Scyks but unsure which I'd love Serissu but costs too much to add 2 other Scyks
or maybe 3 with cannons or PTL. Focus + Evade 3 dices can (hopefully) Agi tank for a little while.
I feel you on the support issue. While Z-95s are very cost effective, they're simply not tie fighters ![]()
I don't think the Wave 7 scum-wing is going to help Xizor even the slightest bit
that big Devil Puppy, though...
Z's are both better and worse then ties. the 2 shields 2 hull make them more survivable, while their dial and lack of barrel roll evens it out.
anyone flying ties who suffers a hit and a crit instantly has to worry about that crit, while a z just loses all its shields. Plus you can quite happily pass a crit off to a shielded z using Xizor's ability, while passing it off to a tie could be a much bigger issue.
I've been doing alright running 5 z's alongside Xizor, the biggest obstacle to doing this is needing the 5th z, either buying a 3rd most wanted, or more likely borrowing one.
OK....I typed up my report. It's here:

There's actually a couple of reason why I decided to go with the Vigos instead of the Enforcers.
First of all, I wanted to try multiple Starviper in a tournament setting, not just casual game. My first idea was the obvious 4 Enforcer, followed by 3 Enforcer and 2 Z. But there was just a slight problem, there is still a lot of turrets flying around, so I wanted to equip the Vipers with Autothrusters. If I did that, no way to take a second Z. So, with 3 Enforcer+Autothrusters I had to choose between: either to upgrade the Z in a better pilot with the 19pts left (N'dru+Lonewolf was an option), or to upgrade all Starvipers and Z to the PS3 version for a perfect 100pts team. I went with the PS3 version because:
-Predator is seeing more and more play. Since Vipers are reliant on dice, you don't want to give a free reroll to your opponent. Vigo's PS3 allows your Predator opponent to reroll just one dice Vs the Enforcer PS1 that allows 2.
-Turrets being already taken care of thanks to Autothusters, the builds that scared me the most was Dual IG (not much I can do against them), BBBBZ and Panic Attack. Both BBBBZ and Panic Attack is composed exclusively of PS2 ship. The Starviper being a very maneuvrable craft, going after them would help me stand my ground against them.
-Fat Turrets are either escorted by an elite ship or a mini swarm. Not much I can do Vs the Elite, but if I can at least move after the swarm, that should help.
-Warthog Y-Wing are generally PS2 and you don't want to be in their double attack range.
I had a LOT of fun flying this squadron. And even though I usually don't like flying the same thing more than once, it was so much fun to fly that I might give this team a second go eventually. Generic Starviper can be competitive.
I like running Guri with Virago. A tad expensive, but with AS and VI he can dart about pretty well even though he is kinda expensive. The problem is that the Virago title does not work on any of the squadron pilots. Without AS or PTL, they are not worth the points to me.
I tried a few different Guri lists last night for fun. A friend wanted to practice his escalation list, so we played a 60 point game and a 90 point game.
60 points:
Guri with Lone Wolf, Virago, FCS, autothrusters
2 Pirates
90 points:
Guri with Lone Wolf, Virago, FCS, autothrusters
2 Pirates
Dream with unhinged astro and 2 proton torpedoes
He ran:
60 points:
Kenkirk
1 AP
90 points:
Kenkirk
1 AP
Bounty Hunter
Despite some truly horrible dice and getting at least one Z95 one shot to hit-hit-crit (direct hit) as well as them just not rolling evades in general, I won both games. Guri with Lone Wolf and autothrusters can easily solo a non-gunner Decimator, and she obviously can dance circles around an AP or BH. The FCS let me have a target lock for basically the entire game while using my action to either focus or maneuver. PTL would have been nice, might have to try that also. I do enjoy non-PTL StarVipers to keep the dial wide open, though. Overall I was pretty pleased with how Guri flew and I think the list is decent.
Edited by betesOh, my list was nicknamed "Prince and the New Power Generation".
Hah! My Xizor / 2x Autoblaster Y / Suhlak list is "Prince And The N'dru Power Generation."
So, I went to Regionals with 4 StarVipers today. Without flying them even once before. ^^
3 wins, 2 losses. The losses were close ones - I had superior positioning, but my dice went very cold in key moments...
StarVipers are powerful. I really love them now. Its so much fun to fly them. I instantly got used to the dial and the supreme positioning options they offer. They lack the 3 turn - one of my most favourite maneuver - but they give you so much more.
All I can say: Try them for yourself! You will be surprised.
Edited by TheRealStarkillerI've started running a maxed out iggy B with 2 black sun enforcers.
I think I'm gonna take it to regionals.
I'm getting tempted to buy a third viper.
The 25 point StarViper is so much better then a 30 points Defender; you can't belive it!

That's really good to hear! What was the build you went against?
If I could attend another Regional this year, I think I would give another go to my Vigo build.
I'm thinking about flying a 3 Starviper build at my next tournament. I too love these ships. I actually have never flow anything but the PS 1 generics in a competition setting and have only lost one game (by 1 point) out of 12 or so matches.
1. Game
Lost against
Chewie, Cracken + 2 Z.
Chewie with Predator, Recon and Jan was so effective in attack, I think he got a hull score of hits in every round. Cracken evaded epic-like with multiple 2 evades. I shot down the Zs but Chewie killed my Vipers. Wished I had Autothrusters at this point.
2. Game
Won against
Guri, Palob with a Black Sun custom paint job, 2 Slack Sun Soldiers.
Very close one. Very intense fight.
Guri and Palop both had Opportunist. Palop has Blaster Turret, Recon and the title, Guti had FCS .. I think. In the opening salvo Palob rolled 4 hits, I managed to roll 4 blanks. Gury finished my first Viper off.
I managed to turn the blade by killing Palob in focused fire, so I could finally use the focus action without feeding the HWK.
The 2 Z's followed. I killed Gury with my last Viper with 1 or 2 hull left.
3. Game
Lost against
Soontir & Chira with Vader
This one was exremely ... arrrrghhh! .... Soontir doged every sinngle attack even without any actions. I managed to block him several times ... but ... no chance against this greens! My reds were average but my greens went cold and so I lost one Viper after the other and the fight ended with Chira having 3 hull left, Soontir had no scratch - my Starvipers gone. Autothrusters would have saved me again I guess.
4. Game
Won against
Dash & Horn
The usual Dash with HLC and Horn with R2D2 and stuff.
This was a quick one. I was able to block Horn while focussing on Dash, with all 4 StarVipers had a shot on Dash.
Dash melted due to my HOT dice in this round. Lonely Horn followed him 2 turns later. All 4 Vipers remained fully operational.
5. Game
Won against
IggyB & IggyD
I don't remember the exact loadout, but they had Autothrusters, Manglers and FCS.
A close one again. The Autothrusters saved them so many hits. They mangled 2 Vipers until I got the B.
The last remaining Viper destroyed the last remaining IG.
Rank 28 of 64.
Edited by TheRealStarkillerI took this list to regionals, went 2-3.

Try my 3Vigo+1Z build. I'm 4-2 with it.
I'm just coming back from a game against BBBBZ. Sadly I lost it, but I made some critical error and learned a lot from it. With more experience with the build and against BBBBZ, I could have won it.

That's why I went with 3 Vigo with Autothursters and a Z instead of 4 Enforcer or 3 Enforcer and 2 Z. PS3 counter Predator and win initiative Vs BBBBZ and Panic Attack, and Autothrusters help a lot Vs the turrets. I see that both your loss were against a turret.
Still, thumbs up for the cojones of bringing 4 PS1 Starviper to a Regional.
