Tonight I had a battle against a Firespray, StarViper, and Scyk with the following list:

Scimitar + Proton Bomb + Ion Missile x3

BSP x2

Those proton bombs wrecked his ships, because he tried to focus fire on my bombers and had terrible luck with his dice. Only one of my ships went down with a full load, but the two remaining bombers dropped their bombs and not only wiped out the Scyk, but also managed to give his other two ships some serious problems with critical hits. I had gotten target locks out on the Firespray, and after a couple of turns I ion'ed him and focus-fired his butt. His StarViper went down before the Firespray, but it got in several good hits on the bombers.
