Enhanced Scopes... When to equip them?

By Hexdot, in X-Wing

OK, they are cheap but the sensors slot is a precious one. Enhanced Fire Control is cost only 2 pts. Why equip Enhanced Scopes?

It lets you avoid being blocked or, alternatively, guarantees you can block another ship.

I've seen it put to good use on Sigma phantoms (for blocking) and tanky B-wings (for knife-fighting).

It is so that your higher PS pilots can move and get their actions without bumping or getting blocked by another ship. However, this can be seen as a detriment because then it can't use repositioning actions (if it is capable of doing so) after lower PS pilots moving, it also gives you less information to work with when determining your actions.

But the biggest upside to Enhanced Scopes is that when you draw the "Damaged Cockpit" you can laugh at them and say "Ha! I already move at PS 0!" And then you cry because now you shoot at PS 0 as well.

Ahhhhh...ok, perhaps not the best sensor upgrade card, but but it is more clear now. Thanks

It's also a way to give high PS pilots the benefit from moving before lower PS pilots... particularly when the lower PS pilot is Lando, or one with a Squad Leader EPT.

It's also a way of having multiple ships move simultaneously, irrespective of their shooting order.

T'was a silent fix for Kagi ;)

ES is going to be a *blast* with the TIE Punisher and Prox Mines... and maybe Cluster if they work the same way.

1.) Never, lol. Most things I'd use that have a systems slot I'd rather just pay a few points more for and get something that is actually good.

2.) Maybe on 4 Dagger Squadron B Wings. Seems more like that'd only be useful because every BBBB(Z) build is great.

3.) A generic phantom I suppose. If I only had one point left I'd go for Intel Agent though. The second point would go into Enhanced scopes only if I already had stygium/ACD.

It's more the opportunity cost of it, but it seems like whatever build I want to use it on it pushes me over by a point. IMO it should be zero points, its not really even a benefit. Adrenaline Rush, Intel Agent, Nien, Tactical Jammer, Munitions Failsafe, even Deadeye have uses with no downsides except their single point cost and the opportunity cost of the slot they take up. ES has all of those things, plus the downsides of moving first.

All of the other one point cards give you something that is well worth a single points, with no downsides. ES costs you a point, and also comes with downsides.

I've run enhanced scopes a few times on my Whisper/Yorr list. Enhanced scopes on a shuttle with Engine upgrade can make for a great blocker. Can cover a surprising amount of distance usually catches my opponents off guard

This! At his high PS he's usually out of range. I Wish his ability worked for FCS :(

I really wish they were optional. I'd consider them in that case.

When swam become a big thing again I think you will see this card a lot more
