Spell Timing Question

By Bolithio, in Talisman

Heres how it went down:

Gypsy starts her turn, casts Strength .

Dwarf casts Counterspell .

Conjurer then announces they cast Spell Recall (on Strength).

Argument ensues. Are the spells resolved in order they were cast, or is it simultaneous? Can the Conjurer take Strength, or would they have to take Counterspell. Finally, which spell can the Gypsy take, Counterspell or Spell Recall, or can she take her choice of both?

This has been debated, but a popular solution is if the Dwarf and Conjurer are competing to cast Spells in response to Strength, the one who acts first gets priority. Let's assume the Dwarf acted faster than the Conjurer. Regarding the Gypsy, it's easiest to allow her to claim a Spell - "tag" it, if you will - that is about to go into the discard, even if it's on the table while you are resolving Spells.

First, the Gypsy casts Strength.

Then, the Dwarf casts Counterspell on Strength. The Gypsy may tag Counterspell to claim, or decline.

Then, the Conjurer may cast Spell Recall on Counterspell. The Gypsy may tag Spell Recall to claim, or decline.

Finally, all Spells are put into the discard except those the Gypsy claimed.

That's what I think, anyway...

Totally agree. DE handles it this way as well!

That was how I viewed it, however other people in my group argued that it wasnt fair to be able to shout out your spell or whatever immediatly, when other people may have "at the start of turn" actions. Some peopel dont work that fast, or new players may not understand when certain spells work. I do see their point.
