Generic pilots for Epic play, have you tried it.

By bmwrider, in X-Wing

I got the idea from another post, what do you think of the idea, does anyone have experience playing this way?

Do you think it works out good?

Below is the other post

I worry that an epic game will drag too long for the people that play here, it seems they prefer to play multiple games back to back over a long single game.

There are ways to mitigate this. I like to have an epic game with numerous players. If you break the points up into chunks, then it's not too hard. There are other things you can do, like don't control a lot of ships of the same PS. It just bogs the game down. Also, the more special rules (unique pilots and upgrades) you have, the slower it becomes. Try to stick to generics. It's rather thematic that way, anyways.

Eh. Epic is the place where support pilots like Dutch and Kyle really shine. I tend to use them in conjunction with flights of generics, but I don't like the idea of only using generics.

howlrunner + all the ties + all the bombers

that's all the character you need ^_^

When people fly hodge podge lists in epic it kind of looks bad. Epic looks beautiful with neat formations of the various TIEs and such. When you have have 8 TIEs swoop across the map to chase down 5 A Wings, while 4 fully loaded TIE Bombers are engaging 3 B Wings off to the side, that's when the game gets amazing.

NOTHING chases down an A-Wing. That is all. ;)
