Wave 3 Speculation / Wish List

By Marvingardns, in Star Wars: Armada

I think the lancer's role has been supplanted by other ships as well. The Raider alone replaces the Lancer and Carrack quite well in use, making those older and more spaceship generic designs obsolete.

Besides if we did have a lancer what would it be? The Raider already serves well enough, and 3 dice on an anti-fighter rating would be incredible (one-shotting TIEs?)

Or you could put aside the newly invented raider, that doesnt fit the lore and has the silliest and lamest design a one-handed design student in drugs could imagine...

Or we just ignore the lore, that the Cr90 was pulled from imperial front-line duty, just to be replaced with a new design that has the same flaws for wich the Cr90 was pulled back and the Lancer was designed...

With regards to the lancer class frigate, I feel like the Raider fills the same role in the fleet without looking like a space-weiner spraying ugly all over the board.

Still a better design than a corvette sized destroyer with TIE-Wings...

I mean how is the crew even supposed to ...crew ... it. Do they lie in the front section?

So my Wave whislist:

After holding the AF mark 2 in my hands, I don't see how we can ever get a Dreadnought of AF Mark 1. The scale looks completely off.

Wasn't the AF mark 2 supposed to be just the front section of a dreadnought? It is massive. When you look at the drawings of the Dreadnought and AF Mark 1, the aft section is like twice the length of the front section... Which means the dreadnought would be like 50% longer than the Victory, despite the fact it is supposed to be shorter than the AF Mark 2.

Unless of course the AF Mark 2 is a shell around a Dreadnought... Which is a semi-plausible idea. Even still the smooth lines of the AF mark 2 don't line up with the square lines of the dread or AF mark 1.

What do you think?

The original AF Mk Is were modified Dreadnaughts. The Mk IIs were a completely new design loosely based off of the Dreadnaught.

Gameplay wise I could see a differentiation between AF1 and AF2.

AF2's a broadside ship. AF1'll be a forward arc ship, like a beefed up Nebulon. Maybe make it lighter and do 2 dials or something.

Dreadnaught would be a big, beefy, 'equal in all directions' ship with 3 dials for Imps.

I'd like Bulk Cruisers and all that other stuff to show up too. Probably as 2 or 3 dial 'small' ships that are terrible, slow, but cheap as well.

Escort Carrier and similar ships would serve an interesting purpose due to having high squadron for their cost.

Just my limited knowledge, but I believe the AFmk1 was a Dread that had been automated with droids to cut the crew compliment, and up gunned with more but shorter ranged guns. So I would expect them to be pretty similar in number of dice, but with different dice colors.

I do like them being more head on gunners than broadside platforms. Makes them different enough to possibly warrant a mk1 and mk2.
