Wave 3 Speculation / Wish List

By Marvingardns, in Star Wars: Armada

Well I haven't seen a thread on this lately, and frankly I'm wanting to burn away some boredom waiting on Wave I by speculating on Wave 3, which should be released sometime in the third quarter of 2019.

Personally I'm excited to see what a VT-49 Decimator would look like on the table. I would expect that a VT-49 Decimator pack would be released, although I'm curious what stats it would have. I envision something like a sturdier screen than a TIE fighter, and more like a B-Wing with more anti-fighter capability, but not as strong anti-ship capability. I can see them acting as a close escort, augmenting anti-fighter capabilities of a SD's. It would be a single model fighter like the Rogues & Villains.

Speed: 3

Strength: 6

Attack: four blue

Anti-ship: 1 black

[Heavy]

[bomber]

by speculating on Wave 3, which should be released sometime in the third quarter of 2019 . <snip>

You optimist you.

I'd like to see an Interdictor-class for the Empire, and a Marauder for the Rebels...more fighters could be good too!

N1 Naboo? :P ;)

Empire:

Interdictor

Acclamator?

Rebels:

MC with wings

Corellian Gunship

I am having a hard time thinking of Imperial ships.

Dreadnoughts, TIE Defenders (With Maarek in his rightful seat), Lambdas. Those are my fervent hopes.

I have no doubt a Liberty-type MC80 (winged) will get released. Its just too iconic to pass up, and could give the rebs a huge cap ship with better forward firing power.

Hoping for Lancer Frigate,Tartan Cruiser, and Strike Cruiser for the Empire.

Rebels get DP20 Frigate, Bulk Cruiser, and Dreadnaught. They need ships that reflect them scraping by.

Small Base ships:

GR-75 Transport (Rebel Transport) and various other Medium or Bulk Freighters as prize ships and a "hyperspace" convoy type objectives.

DP-20 Gunship (Corellian Gunship)

Quasar Class transport (Aka "Flurry)

Lancer class frigate

Luxury Liner (and other prize ships)

Medium Base:

Hapen Nova-Class Battlecruiser

Winged mon cal Cruiser

Interdictor

Large Base:

Hapen Battle Dragon

Tapani Class frigate

Dreadnaught

Starships:

Assault Gunboat

Skipray Blastboat

Missleboat

Lamda Shuttle

Delta-class DX-9 stormtrooper transport

I really want to do convoy raid type missions.

Looking at this thread has reinforced my view that once wave 2 hits the game is largely complete from my perspective. Nothing leaps out as a 'holy moly must buy' moment. Don't get me wrong, I would likely buy whatever they release but wave 2 looks to be the zenith of original trilogy awesomeness. Going to be interesting to see where they take the game long term.

We're about to have a steady stream of new Star Wars movies to bring new ship types to the universe for us to want tiny models of to play with.

Hmm... part of the guess would have to be dependent on what FFG would want to do. Would they want to branch out into pure non-combat support ships like the GR-75? Even the scales by giving the Empire a Nebulon-B counterpart? Will true carriers have a presence, such as Escort Carriers and Quasar-Fire? Will Episode 7 have an impact on Armada and will we see new ships for it?

Gah! It's a mace in space!

As an Imperial player, would love to see Lancer, Interdictor, and Dreadnaught.

I would like to see the Rebels get Corellian Gunship and Dreadnaught as well.

Wow can't believe I forgot the Lancer, yea add that one to my list.

I'm a big fan of the OT, and I think the free hand given to fans to create whatever they wanted in the EU has resulted in some pretty ugly and silly ships, so I really don't think there is much left that I would want FFG to release. An Interdictor Star Destroyer, a winged Mon Cal ship, and that about covers it. That gives us all the iconic ships from the OT (the only ones I'd be interested in buying) and provides a nice range of ships for both sides. We're currently up to wave 7 in X Wing, but I don't think we'll get that far in Armada. Not without REALLY scraping the bottom of the barrel for new ships, and frankly I feel like doing that does more harm than good. You wind up with the fleets diluted by ships that don't match the iconic look and feel created by the movies, that are only recognisable by the most devoted of fans, that frankly just puzzle the rest of us.

I hope FFG realises sooner rather than later that they don't need to continue releasing waves to keep consumers interested. I mean, obviously they want us to buy more product for ever and ever to keep their coffers full, but releasing new ships all the time is not sustainable. At some point you have released every ship available, and you just have to stop. And that point is going to come much sooner for Armada than it is for X Wing, even with the new trilogy being released this year.

Wow can't believe I forgot the Lancer, yea add that one to my list.

Oh god, please no. It really does just look like a flying dildo.

I think the lancer's role has been supplanted by other ships as well. The Raider alone replaces the Lancer and Carrack quite well in use, making those older and more spaceship generic designs obsolete.

Besides if we did have a lancer what would it be? The Raider already serves well enough, and 3 dice on an anti-fighter rating would be incredible (one-shotting TIEs?)

I have been trying to think of rules where the Empire has overwhelming force, but the rebels with a smaller force can objective win.

When I think Star Wars battles, It is a small band vs crazy odds.

I want a ton of USD and fighters with rules where a few mon cals and fighters can hold thier own for a bit and and an objective win.

I think there's a lot more scope for scenarios and lopsided battles in Armada than there is in X Wing. For instance, you could have the Imperials ambushing a rebel fleet by using an Interdictor. So the Rebel goal is to destroy the Interdictor and jump to hyperspace, while the Imperial objective might be to destroy a key ship (carrying a vital diplomat or something). Or you could have space stations that need to be destroyed or protected, blockade runs where ships attempt to cross the table, etc. There's a lot of scope there.

Interdictor would be the coolest.

I'm going to trust that the third wave of ships will be like Wave 2 (it may not be, but I'll vote for consistency in the short term. Because X-Wing)

So, I think 2 Imperials, 2 Rebels and something else.

For the Empire, I'm going to guess:

- Interdictor Cruiser ( Immobilizer )

- Lancer -class frigate

For the rebels:

- MC80 Liberty type Star Cruiser

- Marauder -class Corvette

Other:

- Freighters and Shuttles (incl. Lambda, Sentinel, BFF-1 Bulk Freighter, and Action VI transport - yes, the shop vac)

Wow can't believe I forgot the Lancer, yea add that one to my list.

Oh god, please no. It really does just look like a flying dildo.

Do you oppose the space program (rockets) or submarines on the same grounds?

If someone was hopeful of model space shuttles and submarines to make an appearance in Armada, then I would oppose that, for sure. But for different reasons. The Lancer is an ugly ship that made no appearance in the films and doesnt match the iconic "dagger" look of the other Imperial ships. It's undeniably phallic shape is really just the icing on the cake. I really don't think it has any place in the Armada lineup.

How about the Nebulon B2 Frigate?

I'd still like to see the MK1 assault frigate.
