Need a Squad / Build to beat Imperial Swarm

By Skitch, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey there everyone very new to X-wing my friend and I bought a few things and have been playing Rebels Vs Imperial Problem is he has soo many ships and gets so manyh attacks compared to me I usually lose. I was wondering if anyone can help me build a good squad to go up against this. He likes to use Tie fighters and Tie intercepters.

I only have the following to work with....

x1 YT-2400
x1 X-wing (Core Set)
x1 Z Headhunter
x1 E-wing

Please help me guys your my only hope

I can't say as I've ever been that limited on card use before but I enjoy a chalenge, mayhaps ye could try:

Eaden Vrill: Tactician

Etahn A'baht: R2D2 - Outmaneuver -Andvanced Sensors

Lieutenant Blount: Assault Missiles - Wingman

I'd say that's worth giving a go although untested, it could be that it would only work once against a swarm, depending on your opponents ability for threat assessment.

Z95s can be superb. (Especialy when they can't miss.) :P

Have fun!

Thanks for the advice I have now aqquired a YT-1300 as well so I cna add those cards as well if you have any more ideas I like the cheap headhunter a lot

Load Assault Missiles in the Falcon. Lando as a pilot, plus chewee. Choose "draw their fire" to upgadre Han, and select Biggs to pilot the X. Force the ties to attack him, and assign some hits to Han.

so you have the core-set, which basically means you are required to use Luke

against tie fighters, Luke's constantly triggering ability almost always reduces their maximum damage by half on every attack. It doesn't even matter if they block him, he'll still get his ability.

which, generally, means they won't shoot him at all

that's where his high PS and 3 attack kick in: luke is quite good at murdering ties before they even get to shoot

If you can proxy Predator and r5-p9 (r2-d2 is not bad, but he is very restrictive), he'll basically solo the swarm (provided they don't all get range 1 shots :P)

I almost liked this post, except for the droid bit. R2D2 is hands down better than R5P9. That's why he costs one more point :P

Luke w/ Lone Wolf, R2-D2 + Engine upgrade is pure gold. Not sure if its the best 38 points in the whole game, but its pretty good. Thing to remember though is that Luke is good against 2 or 3 TIE fighters (as long as you got R2-D2) but any more than that and he will die. So the key is to trade your other ships for TIE fighters until there are only 2 or 3 left, and let Luke go to town on those. Don't let Luke die early though! He is your closer.

Corran Horn is also a good closer and wants R2-D2 as well. He works well with Marksmanship + FCS, but I don't think you have FCS? Push the limit + advanced sensors is another option, but doesn't sound like you have Push either.

The YT-2400 is really only good if you have a heavy laser cannon or a 'mangler' to go with the outrider title. I don't remember if the YT-2400 comes with a heavy laser cannon or not...

Luke as kitted out as above is probably the best ship you can put on the table at the moment...

Pairing him with something effective is going to be tough given what you have though. Han Solo w/ engine upgrade is a possibility. Chewbacca crew would also be good, except Engine is better at keeping him alive if you play patiently and focus on staying alive rather than getting good shots. A Z-95 takes you to 100 pts.

So:

Luke w/ Lone Wolf, R2-D2 & engine upgrade

Han solo w/ engine upgrade

Bandit squadron pilot

100

Not the best list against swarms, admittedly, but if you really want to beat swarms, you need more ships. I would recommend picking up a b-wing because its a good ship and comes with FCS. An a-wing is good too so you have the push the limit card (great for Corran).
