Has anyone seen the New(ish) Bandai Star Wars Model Kits?

By Funkleton, in X-Wing

I finally got around to make an R2 unit:

That is R2-KT, the droid built for the daughter of one of the founders of the 501st Legion that passed away from a brain tumor in 2009. Completed in Tamiya acrylics; Alclad lacquers; Mig & AK Interactive enamels; and Secret Weapon Miniatures pigments. For the first time ever, I decided not to paint the white and instead applied the enamel washes directly to the plastic. Coming from the BB-8/R2-D2 kit, I also noticed that this plastic is glossier than the plastic in the original release of this kit, which I found interesting. Since R2-KT is an Imperial droid, I gave her a base that resembled the Death Star hangar from the original Star Wars. If you haven't heard the entire story behind R2-KT, check out their website (but be prepared to have your heartstrings tugged!)

Brilliant! And I'm very excited about that 1/72 Falcon! Just need to finish my DeAgostini one first :)

I'm Hoping they release the 1/900 Star Destroyer Model - that's about the right scale for Epic play right? :)

Very nice model - but it does have a proportionally sharper bow than, I think, the studio model did.

Compare to the Armada ISD with it's blunter bow.

I thought the Armada ISD was pretty flawed? Shorter than it should be, with a much smaller bridge?

I'd like to see the thread for that though - specifying the differences and confirming it with measurements - all measurement given as fractions of bow to stern length, and compared to the studio models' proportions, both Avenger and Devastator (the Armada model may be a compromise since it has to represent both).

It was in this thread that it was argued to be out of proportion:

https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/216652-rogue-one-anyone-modeling-an-isd-i/page-2#entry2161961

with at least one disputation:

Curious as I think the FFG ISD is much more accurate and the bridge tower is the right scale. The Die Cast looks way out of proportioned and too long. When I look at pictures of ISD's from the movies the FFG ISD looks great.

I don't think my TIE is a bandai one, but nonetheless I have to paint the **** thing still.

I hope they release a TIE Bomber though.

Yup - the two ships I've been waiting for more than any other apart from the Y-Wing (obviously) - are the Bomber and the B-Wing

The Y-wing is my favorite neutral ship next to the Z-95. The TIE Bomber is my longest run ship that isn't a Defender, so naturally I want one to commemorate my gaming. Also because I think TIE Lines outside of the old BF/Galaxies are **** and I can't think of a decent aircraft for my Imperial Army Ground Support Wing TIEs.

Squeeeee!!!!!!

1/72 scale Falcon!

I can't find any info on this anywhere. Has it not be officially announced, yet??

No - no official announcement, just a prototype on display at the Tokyo Toy show

Looks like the TIE Interceptor is on its way shortly

Found a post about it through Google Image search. Pretty awesome. I really hope they make it a kit.

I wouldn't get my hopes up about a display model, after all they displayed that awesome Star Destroyer years ago, toyed with our emotions, then never delivered.

That needs a nsfw warning.

I wouldn't get my hopes up about a display model, after all they displayed that awesome Star Destroyer years ago, toyed with our emotions, then never delivered.

At the intended scale (1:1600) the SD would have been over a metre long - that's a very expensive kit (around $/£ 500 - 800 depending on lighting options I'd guess) and a therefore a fairly limited market in comparison to their smaller kits.

Never say never, but Bandai are almost certainly going to be cautious about releasing something like that

Good Falcon kits have proven to be in high demand though - both with their own 1:44 kits and the Finemolds and DeAgostini offerings - so a much safer bet.

I thought the Interceptor was already out, so I am bumming pretty hard now. I am over in the Philippines right now and was at a toy store yesterday that had all of the model kits that are out at the moment. I searched for the Interceptor but didn't see it. I might pick up at least one though, since they look so cool. Maybe an A-Wing, except the TIE Advanced that was on display looked really good.

This is true, and a plastic mold is more expensive than a resin one, but the Anigrand and Randy Cooper kits in a similar scale have been quite popular. A 3 foot Star Destroyer at $500 would be a great option on the market, IMO! But you're right, it's not something Bandai will approach without careful consideration.

I picked up a fine molds Falcon some time back, but not having built models for some 30 years,it looks pretty daunting. With that in mind I've now purchased a "pack" with x-wing, advanced, tie ln and y-wing to ease me back into it. Now to also find some time...

All 1/72 scale

I want to pick up a Raptor conversion kit, but I can't justify the price on a TIE Interceptor from the model line you're supposed to use on it.

Can say with authority these kits are stunning. For modelers and vehicle fans these are top notch. I run mine with the vintage WEG Star Wars minis. Trust me. They look amazing on the table!

Eh. Forgotto add: worth every penny.

Agreed, these kits are great. Just the right amount of detail, easy to assemble while still offering a challenge, consistent scaling, and a wide range of great OT ships for a good price.

Wot I said in the title ...... they look rather nice - perfect for a not-so-miniature game of X-Wing Miniatures

Don't see why not we can in the UK.
