Damage card expansion packs and tournament packs --- needed

By EmpireErik, in X-Wing

Nobody is going to stop playing large ships if one out of 30+ crit cards disables a crew function... Stop being an alarmist.

Other possible crit cards could be like something such as : comms failure, pilot cannot gain benefit from friendly pilots abilities and cannot receive free actions. Roll a dice at the end of each turn, if you roll (something) flip card face down.

There is a lot that can be added without disabling the game or getting players from playing in tournaments.

Ignoring other pilot abilities would hit a very specific subset of pilots. Only one of them is even slightly common right now.

Decreased fun.

Increased mandatory cost.

Completely unnecessary, just like the other 500 ideas on 50 threads on the same topic.

Damage cards like the hypothetical Comms Failure would effect very few possible ships. The odds of drawing a crit that actually affects your ship diminishes. It's pointless.

I hear your point, I just cannot agree one out of thirty cards? There are far worse crits out there.

Anyways, like a lot of other prior posts there is a need for replacement parts.

And yes, pretty much everything has been previously posted and there are more boring topics.

You're designing a card there that nerfs Garven, nerfs Kyle, nerfs Dutch, nerfs Wingman and about 10 other never-taken pilots and EPT's. And I have to pay extra and eventually it'll be required? How does that make the game better?

I agree completely about replacement decks.

You know, a sealed damage deck specifically created for a tournament could be a neat idea but it is not something that should become universal. Of course while I could see FFG putting out replacement decks I don't see why they would; getting a DD is as easy as buying a core set and if you are that hard on it you should be finding protective sleeves to wreck instead.

Now having a special tournament where a "surprise" damage deck filled with creative new criticals could be entertaining I'm not sure I'd ever want to see that become the normal. Maybe have a Scrap Yard 2015 DD filled with all kinds of especially deadly critical could make an interesting tournament but it would be inappropriate for normal play.

I like the idea of replacement decks, but at the same time it's the only element of the game you can't buy 3rd party or replacements of already. You should have to buy the core set to play, and the damage deck is the only thing forcing that at this point. You can buy other ships, 3rd party range rulers/maneuver templates/tokens, and you can buy replacement dice. So I guess I'd say no to the replacements, even though it would help if your original deck got messed up. It's worth getting card sleeves though, for sure.

I do think they could do the special damage decks as a promotion at state or national-level tourneys. Nobody's cheating the system that way, and it'd be a neat participation prize.

Ok just an idea. I however do not want to buy any more core sets. I would like to get replacement parts as needed. It could be anything, movement dials, etc.

I think a tournament set of damage decks would be well received as swag. One can only have so many range rulers, and I like those.

Thanks for the conversation gentlemen. See you at the game table.
