sooo, if I used a goat, is it considered cheating?

it wasn't even like I forgot to use advanced sensors after I revealed my dial, I just said "advanced sensors" as I was flipping my dial.

Yeah, that's really bad. I don't see how that is not calling it before it is revealed. I Fly Casual, and nothing like that has ever happened in competitive play for me, I have played all nice folks.

But if someone is going to be a jerk about things, then you live and die by the sword. Fly Casual does not equal roll over and be a doormat. If they keep up that behavior or are excessively stubborn about it, then at that point I'll be sure to tell them that I'll be looking at every single minuscule thing they do, and rain down all the holy hell of the rulebook on them if they do so much as breath the wrong way. I know TOs that have essentially run those kinds of players out of their stores because they are not worth having around.

Erm, wow, I just.. yeah.

My 1st epic tournament was a learning experience. I was moving 10 tie fighters at once and them taking actions. I had done this before in regular tournament with a swarm. My oponnant let me move them all and then denied all actions. I was mad but I learned. He flub bed a few later in the match and we were able to decimate all but 2 of his ships. It all comes down to meeting new people and seeing how they play. The TO has the final say so as long as you keep to the basics it's not really an issue.

Erm, wow, I just.. yeah.

Sorry, what was that?

"Used" a goat? Eeeew. :D

So...alright... Anyways to stay on topic:

To win I personally put on a gold bikini and bathe in the sweat of seven blind Ewoks. Makes me roll better greens. 50% of the time it works every time :)

More importantly to whom is the sacrifice being made? Does it make any difference as to whether or not it is permissible?

You sacrifice to keep her attention elsewhere, but beware she is but one of the dice gods.

A guy accidentally rolled my normal dice instead of his clear ones, got blanks, and then asked if he could re-roll with his clear dice instead.

*face-palm

I have had to call a TO over when I'm trying to Barrel Roll and it's super close to being obstructed by my opponent's ship, but could be construed as touching without overlapping.

Well there are no shortage of virgins to sacrifice at tournaments...,

The dice gods work the opposite way. They are only impressed by the other end of the spectrum.

I also went to a tournament where in the middle of our playing my opponent apologizes and runs to the bathroom (it was at Gen con, so bathrooms werent a stone throw away).

Sometimes you just have to go - and that isn't something you want to stop them on, cons often smell bad enough!

That being said, if it was me, I would probably have offered to concede to you if we did not have enough time to finish.

I certainly call the TO more regularly on measurement issues. Especially when the player measuring could easily influence the result one way or the other. It is too much of a moral dilemma for me, since I could easily angle that range ruler more in my favor, even if I'm not doing it on purpose. It is just a LOT easier to let the TO decide. Or have the TO agree that you should roll for it.

I know I've had a few situations where I DIDN'T call the TO over though, on certain rulings. Some of it is difficult, like when a player moves a ship before measuring, like to bump. There is NO way to find the ship's original position, so how can you call the TO over and explain that it wasn't clear that the ship bumped with the chosen maneuver. The best you can do is have the TO give a warning to "not do that again, and measure everything before moving ships".

Just played at the regionals and have to say, only a single time did someone roll prior to me putting a token down and even then it was in the air flying towards Guri whilst the dice were rolling. Essentially, my opponent had never played against Guri before and assumed it was Xizor. Other than that, no issues and I love the ship.

I was half expecting the topic to be something along the lines of "So if I brought a goat to a tourney and it ate my opponents ships, would that be cheating??"

(I... think that might be an actual enemy in Galaxy Trucker?)

Well, my experience at Cardiff Regionals was overwhelmingly positive, so to add something lovely to this thread:

The first of my two wins came against another Twin IG list (which I had been dreading facing). I got a 100-0 win, which really shocked me because by the end of the game I had IG88B on one hull point with two crits and IG88C on two hull points with one crit. Then, after the final dice had rolled, and we had shook hands, my opponent picked up his ship, looked at my crits and said 'hang on, you have a damaged engine.'

Now this was a bit of a deal, because the ship with that damaged engine was B, and he had made hard turns in the last three rounds, picking his way through asteroids as carefully as possible and dodging arc. I had the other crit - Primary Weapon Malfunction - on top of that one, and it had just not registered with me (or him). I felt totally rotten and apologised profusely - we worked out that if I had noticed it, he could have changed my dial on the second hard turn I pulled and steered me into a rock which may have killed B. Ultimately, with the position that C had, it was unlikely to have made much difference, but it might have made a 100-49 win rather than the full 100-0. He was absolutely cool about it - basically said that after all, he hadn't noticed either and accepted that I had made a genuine mistake. I felt so awful I even went and told the whole story to the TO when I went to give the score, and he basically said if you guys have shaken on it then its fine. Went back to the guy and explained and he said no problem. He also caught up with me later to compare notes on how we'd both done.

I also saw, in the final, the guy who eventually lost, reminding his opponent after the event that he hadn't rolled enough evade dice, and inviting him to roll another for the sake of fairness. All in all, with the exception of one rather over eager player with his hyperactive young son next to him making racket and distracting him and me for an entire game, I couldn't have met a lovelier bunch of players, nor had a more positive regionals experience.
