FAQ UPDATE REQUIRED

By Toothless_Night_Fury, in Talisman

Come on Sam, hurry up and release an updated FAQ for Talisman. We have been waiting a very long time and it would be hugely beneficial to all of us seasoned players!

Agreed. I'm sure many on this forum would even volunteer to help draft the new FAQ as suggested questions and answers. Then the powers-that-be could review the answers, make any adjustments needed, and release it. Wouldn't be too much of a burden if they went about it like that.

Why don't we "Seasoned players" just draw up a FAQ ourselfs post here and debate it out to find fair and just rules for those hard to work out Talisman rule issues then IF FFG gets around to it we can ethier amend it or rip it up and cast it into the valley of fire :) . We do need something... So why not just do it ourselves.. We have alot of talented rule thinkers here.

I don't think it's a good idea to post a fan-written FAQ because it could lead to disagreements over whose opinions to include. FFG read these forums, and they have the opinions we've expressed. I'm sure we've already given them enough material for them to consider, that we may as well already be FAQ contributors. If we keep doing what we're doing, that should be enough!

Normally I would agree with you. But it has been over 3.5 years since the last FAQ update, with several expansions incorporating game-changing mechanics (not to mention character abilities) released in the interim. And there has been no indication from FFG that an official FAQ update is even being contemplated at this point.

These forums are full of issues and related discussions. The material for a new FAQ is already here, with some given answers to be evaluated, as well as questions that could not be answered (and motivated) by forum users, no matter how "seasoned" they were.

There are years of threads and worthy questions to be answered, but they need to be compiled, possibly giving some new rules instead of a huge list of Q&As. It's strange to learn that missed turns do not stack from a Chivalric Knight FAQ.

I think Artaterxes is right when he says we won't ever come to an agreement over certain points. If we didn't in the forum, we won't get past it when compiling a FAQ; some answers cannot be given by quoting or applying or interpreting rules, but they just require a decision that no player has the authority to take.

But since this thread resembles a petition for a new FAQ, I'm glad to give my support. I've said we need a new Talisman FAQ something like 100 times since November 2011.

Off-topic, but I just want to clarify. I read this FAQ as indicating that they do stack, because the Chivalric Knight misses 2 turns (rather than one) if he assists 2 characters during the same turn.

Yeah, you're right, I believed that for such a long time that I still mix things up, even though I know how it is now. :)

However, this furtherly supports the fact that a FAQ is not reliable to implement a general rule. Explicit statements (=rules) are less prone to being read (or quoted) in a wrong way.

Well I hope they do revise the FAQ when The Harbringer has been released

I too hope that we see a complete rules / FAQ written up. It would be great to see this after the Harbringer...however.... what with the Deep Realms POD expansion, don't you think that a woodland-highland bridging board is just begging to be made? :) ;) Maybe once that has been made then a complete rules / FAQ could be compiled :D

Well Jackyboy, this could be years away at the rate expansions are coming out now, and the people who knows are probably forbidden to say anything by legal issue.

I personally do not hope for a complete rule/FAQ to be written up, but a beta version that could encompass everything that's been released up until now, including official answer to the tops questions that's been ask on this forum would be welcome indeed.

I like to play with all expansion (yes, I've got them all) and house ruling is nice but it's always better to know what the developer had in mind regarding certain ambiguity that can come up.

Cheers

a very good point Old Master, in fact potentially there is no end to expansions coming out...so I agree a beta would be marvellous! It would be great if I could just print out a few copies and give them to my group of Talisman players and say "right read that before asking me and arguing with my understanding of the rules!!!"

The FAQ died long time ago, and the spell that could revive it is long lost too. The sooner people will realize that the FAQ permanently died, the better for them. Instead of asking for a new FAQ, You should light a candle at its grave.

Perhaps, but until we hear that from an official source, we can still hope!

The official source will never tell You that the good looking and good eating pig actually died long time ago, and now even its bones are gone.

Yawn......
