X-Wing Regionals 2015! What Are The Lists To Beat?

By Tsiegtiez, in X-Wing

Over at the FLGS, it's prep time for Regionals! We're all hard at work obsessing over build design and flight tactics, or, at least it would be work if we were paid for it, right?

Anyway! After a lot of discussion, a good number of lists and list-interaction dynamics came up. Some daunting, others cause for hope! So, good forumites, the new question I have for you is this: what lists are you trying to beat? What do you expect to see at your local Regionals? What do you feel confident taking on? What are you hoping you don't see?

All this and more! Here! This thread! Seriously, help me out people.

I am anticipating:

-BBBBZ

-> other 4xB variants

-Chiraneau + Whisper/Fel/Etc

-> other Decimator builds (including London's victorious DoubleDecimator build)

-Swarm (TIEs and Zs)

-Brobots 2xIG-88

-Fat Han

-SuperDash

This is a place to discuss your hopes and dreams, dreads and fears; don't feel pressured to divulge your Regionals list if you don't want to! I would personally appreciate input on flying against certain lists from the people with experience at the reins: what does 2xIG-88 hate? Where is Chiraneau likely to fly? What obstacles do you hope the other player left at home?

I for one look forward to facing 2-ship lists, but find BBBBZ particularly terrifying in its efficiency.

How is everyone else preparing?

I've yet to see a list that can counter The Shovel.

Sorry, not familiar with that one?

An actual shovel is the only counter to chirpyfel.

I'm betting on proton bombs and seismics to deal with all the swarminess at the Tulsa regional. Emon can kill a BBBBZ swarm in 2 turns if he can pull couple direct hits! Pair him with an AT IG and you can handle chirpy/Fel lists as well.

I know a couple other guys that'll probably be at least top 16 or 8 are thinking along the same lines.

I dunno if it's in your list, but any sort of Chewie + support list is probably going to still be potent. Chewbo, Chewie and the Zs, Chewiffic (Chewie and Corran... because you whiff on corran... I dunno. My friend came up with it)

You deploy a shovel in the enemy's setup area from great force at great height.

Needs to be a unique shovel though, generic shovels set up too early and just damage the mat. Veteran Instincts would be great, although I've yet to see a shovel with an EPT.

IG-88 typically hates stress. I faced a Sensor Jammer Rebel Captive list that caused my droid twins all sorts of trouble. I've never faced Tactician, but I suppose that could be an option as well.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. I meant Rebel Captive, not Sensor Jammer. Sensor Jammer was there, too, and it was problematic, but it wouldn't have been nearly the issue it was if it weren't for Rebel Captive.

As far as the droids, I've had success using them, but haven't played against them much. I hated getting bumped/swarmed, but had Accuracy Correctors in place as red die insurance. Generally a very useful upgrade!

I agree that Chewie is probably placed well for a renaissance. He defeats a Mangler outright, stares down Vader with impunity, and really doesn't care if Greedo came along for the ride. He's got some decent options, but I might even just stick with Gunner, Int Agent, and Engine. Not that it's cheap of course!

Running Corran/Dash so I feel confident about:

BBBBZ

Thug Life (Ion or Autoblaster)

Panic Attack

Brobots

TIE Swarm

Phantoms

Firesprays

the mirror

random jank

The lists I would rather not play against are:

Chirpy/Soontir

Imperial Aces

Fat Han

Achievement: You invented an obscure yet cute list name!

That's a pretty fair listing! Thank you.

With Corran/Dash, why are you concerned about Han? Just PS, or the damage mitigation?

I'm pretty confident about my list's match-ups versus most of the current meta lists, though I'm worried about Brobots, though I think that might be more psychological than anything; and Swarms, particularly the 4BZ. So much firepower...so much hull...

I suppose that's what I get for running an oddball list, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I won our Store Campionship by beating Chirpy + Fel in the final with:

Patrol Leader + Vader crew

3 x Scimitar Squadron Pilot + Proximity Mines

The bombers made short work of Chirpy (one mine hit Fel) and Vader crew just crushes Fel.

I've been seeing an uprising of Ten Numb with Mangler cannon + friends in the local meta. It may have to do with the rise in interceptor play with the release of autothrusters

That's a pretty great setup. I'm pretty partial to lower Pilot Skill, so I might have to give that a shot! I like the way proximity mines work now, I think they have a lot to offer against both Large ships and arc dodgers. What would you be worried about facing with that list?

That's another fair build, the unblockable crit can really ruin someone's day. Ten needs a fair few upgrades or some persuasive friends to avoid catching focus-fire though; what do you like to use with him?

The guy that has the most success does:

Ten Numb + VI + Mangler + Advanced Sensors

Airen Kracken + VI

Blue Squad + HLC

Bandit Squad

I'd recommend the latest Nova Squadron Radio podcast. They just released it this week and the main subject is Regional speculations.

That sounds pretty rad actually. I like that Cracken can give the extra action to Ten or the Blue based on who has a better shot, and 10/10/2/2 is a pretty good way to split movement.

Just finally ordered a CR-90 for my son's birthday. (I almost feel bad about using it as an excuse to buy X-wing stuff but he always wants to play epic games) Besides Fat Han, is there any other top tier list that becomes available with the Tantive expanansion?

Asked in a different thread but it is getting buried. Any thoughts on 4xDaggers with Enhanced Scopes? Losing the Z hurts but I think it would murder other Rebel swarms instead of putting your hopes on a coin flip. Better pilot should still win more often but initiative is huge in mirror matches.

Well, I'll be honest: I think you're asking for objective input in the wrong place. Because I think that makes you the best dad of ever.

Other than Fat Han, well, I can't think of anything from the Tantive IV that will make you a competitive list.

As for Enhanced Scopes on the Daggers, I think that's an excellent list, but depending on how you want to fly, you might instead consider dropping them all down to Blues to squeeze an Intelligence Agent in each cockpit. If you think the PS4 in the Combat phase is more important, keep the Daggers, but I would generally prefer to use the Int Agents to look at up to four dials and Barrel Roll / bump more effectively.

That's a pretty fair listing! Thank you.

With Corran/Dash, why are you concerned about Han? Just PS, or the damage mitigation?

Han's PS and boost allows him to stay in Dash's donut hole and I'll have to rely on Corran a lot more than I do.

Mostly though I just hate flying against the list because nobody actually plays the list until the day of the tournament, so I never actually get to practice against it ahead of time. With 25 games played, I've still never played Dash Corran against a Fat Han list other than solitaire games. And yet in the big Store Championship I played in before I picked up Dash/Corran, I played against 3 Fat Han lists in a row.

I played Dash/Corran throughout store champs. Having practiced quite a bit against autothrusters I have moved away since wave 6 launch. The obstacles might help make up some of that gap, but I doubt Dash/Corran will be a big contender in regionals.
