Dauntless, Asteroids, and Engine Upgrade

By macar, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So let's say RAC lands on an asteroid. however he only did so because he bumped another ship (dauntless doesn't care if it is friendly or enemy).

The way dauntless is worded--After you execute a maneuver that causes you to overlap another ship, you may perform 1 free action. Then receive 1 stress token.

Wouldn't it be correct that you could boost off the asteroid (assuming you could land it) allowing you to attack?

Would you still suffer the effects of the asteroid?

Yes and yes, I think. As long as the boost template didn't overlap the asteroid, Dauntless should let you boost off. As for the asteroid itself, you still lose your perform action step, still roll for damage, but if you aren't overlapping it by the combat phase I think you should still be able to shoot, unless I'm missing something.

Correct.

It goes:

Activation

----------

1. reveal

2. set template

3. Execute maneuver

a) Bump ship - triggers 'skip perform action step' later (step 6)

b) Land on asteroid - triggers damage roll now

c) execute maneuver step done, triggers dauntless

i) perform boost IFF: template does not overlap obstacle (ship ok though) AND base does not overlap obstacle or another ship

ii) receive stress

4. check stress. If you did a green maneuver, the stress from dauntless is cleared. If you already had a stress, you couldn't have used dauntless to begin with

5. clean up

6. perform action - skipped from bumping earlier

Combat

-------

if you're still on the asteroid, you cannot attack. Otherwise you're good
