Question on Oicunn Overlapping

By jjohnson111, in X-Wing

Something came up last night in a game where we had a player flying Cpt Oicunn in his VT-49 Decimator.

I put it onto a picture for everyone to be able to see:

For the sake of the argument, the X-Wing, B-Wing, and Tie Fighter have all moved, and completed actions. Oicunn is the highest PS on the table, and moves last. He reveals his dial for a 4 straight. Obviously this causes an overlap.

The TIE fighter and Oicunn are on the same team, fyi. (So the TIE is not an enemy ship). Oicunn also doesn't have Daredevil, or Dauntless for this example.

Assume I know nothing about the rules, and explain it in layman's terms. Who gets damaged by Oicunn's pilot skill during his activation?

A ruling was already made (since the game was last night) but I heard conflicting reports from some of the players there, and upon checking the FAQ, no argument was made for what one of the players suggested should happen, which he heard from another player.

Thank you!

As Oicunn will end his movement "behind" the TIE, no ship will take any damage from his bumping ability.

If the TIE hadn't been there, the X-Wing had taken one point of damage.

I also just realized there is a rules forum. I am an idiot.

Exam schedules and projects have my brain fried.

The reason why I ask is someone had the idea that for some reason he does damage to everyone he would have overlapped...which didn't make sense to me (as the TO, if that's not already obvious) because then Oicunn could fly into a swarm of TIEs, do 8 points of damage (1 to each TIE) (lets assume he would overlap them all) and dauntless and daredevil to do it all over again. That would be broken...and...dumb.

In your example, no ship receives damage from Oicunn's ability.

"After executing a maneuver, each enemy ship you are touching suffers 1 damage". Oicunn is not touching an enemy after executing his 4 straight maneuver.

Yah,

For awhile I was thinking it was overlapping, and that would have been broken, but it's just whoever he's touching. I still love killing ships with the pointy bowling ball of doom that is Big O! My best is 13 damage in 1 game... Sadly it was my first game with him. It was the Big O Deathroll build (lite= no gunner + vader). 2 Auto damage a round followed by a 3-4 dice turret attack is that good. Especially when if ramming a lower PS ship they can't shoot you back. That's a big bonus that people tend to forget.

There was a big issue with Oicunn awhile back. Deltmi is correct. Oicunn only gives damage to an enemy ship he is touching at the end of his movement phase.

OK, that is what I thought. Thankfully I made the right ruling. My alt-TO was the one who told this player flying Oicunn about this ruling, and the alt-TO kept citing something new in the FAQ and movement, overlapping/bumping, and while that was covered in the latest FAQ, it doesn't cover standard movement such as this example as displayed above and replicated from last night.

The major reason why I was concerned was the player who had called for the ruling is newer, and, I didn't want to take the wind out of his sails by being incorrect and having to go back and apologize after the ruling (because it would have altered the outcome of the match for him, he told me later that evening). We all know about being new and getting those first tournament match wins being really important and all :)
