I really like flying the s-loop and flew my dual IGs with advanced sensors as well and it was always nice to get that action before I did my red manouver. What I'm not sure about is the Elite Pilot Talent. I like Predator but I'm concerned about Guri's PS. So my question is whether to give him VI instead of predator...?

If you want to run a z-95 mini-swarm, the man you're looking for is Xizor. Put your choice of V.I or pred or PtL (push works on Xizor despite lack of greens because no one wants to shoot him, so he can TL+focus pre-dial then use advanced sensors to clear stress and deal serious damage to an enemy). Advanced sensors is recommended, because it makes him a nightmare to predict in the end-game when he's your only ship, but if you can't squeeze in the points, he can go without.

I think Guri works best with other heavy-hitting ships, like a firespray, HLC scyks or something else that deals lots of damage and forces your opponent to deal with so she can get into range 1 without too much heat and then do her thing. In this case, she's a flanker with your choice of predator or outmanoeuvre. Advanced sensors is also nice, but Veteran Instincts is not really useful on her. Even against aggressors, letting her move first gaurantees she won't have her s-loop blocked, and you can use her as a blocker if need be.

Now that you said it, Xizor really does make more sense than her Lieutenant. So I'm going for this squad now:

but for a Z-95 swarm, I really think you're far better off with Xizor (same build)

There's no real reason imo to run Guri when you can enable Xizor's amazing ability and +2 PS gain.

It's when you can't enable Xizor (such as flying with HWKs or other expensive, high value ships that make for bad meatshields) that you throw in Guri. She's far more independent than her boss. I also don't think either pilot needs sensors, but Guri definitely needs it less thanks to her ability.

For my personal style I really like to have advanced sensors since I like to use the s-loop a lot. So getting tokens before flying is a big plus imo...

Personally, you shouldn't be trying to force the S loop until you get into an extended 1 on 1 situation. Vipers have a not so great time dealing with stress considering they are supposed to be a superiority fighter.

Been using Guri a lot and at a regional level done quite well with Guri and some headhunters. However, I used:

Guri
Push the Limit
Autothrusters

Adv.Sensors

Dampners

Use Adv.sensors to boost or barrel roll as needed and then PtL to target lock, perform a green move to clear stress and finish within range 1 of your target for the focus token.

Also, being PS5 actually helps in some situations. Being PS5 means you can block other aces and ruin their day whilst still keeping all your actions. I have out done both Soontir and Echo with a barrel Roll + Damper, blocked them and then the Pirates finish them off. Not before I got my focus token however for being in range 1.

Its not really 'forcing' if you are using the s-loop to get positional advantage. Obviously every match is situational, but if you have a good opportunity to get range 1 behind an enemy ship, then Guri should definitely take it. With advanced sensors to TL (or predator) + free focus, that shot is going to hurt. Of course, you don't want to just be jousting with Guri, so yeah, gotta be smart about when to s-loop. Still, don't underestimate the power of the s-loop! Along with having all the 1 moves, it makes the star viper pretty good at getting behind enemies.

One problem is they don't seem to do a lot of damage even though you fly 6 ships.. And Xizor is quite fragile as well..

Looking for a S&V list, looks worth trying :)

its only weakness: absolutely bull green dice from the opponent

5 Zs and Xizor will output quite a bit of damage and Xizor is basically immune to damage while his mini-swarm is up. Just watch your positioning, Zs aren't the most flexible bastards and they will get in your own way

I kind of like the idea of throwing in a Y-wing with BTL-A4 and ICT for a little bit of control and damage potential in the place of two of the Zs.

Well, considering this thread is about finding ships to run along with a star viper, I'd say the problem with your list is the lack of viper....

Also, I don't understand the point of leeachos, might as well drop him down to soldier and add a feedback array.

ahhh I just saw lots of z spam and went with that :P
