RGC and Friends

By Deltmi, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

I'm very new to the skirmish game (only played 3 games total), and I came up with this list as a "jack-of-all-trades". I only have 1 Core and some of the expansions.

(15) RGC

(8) Royal Guard

(6) Stormtrooper

(5) Elite Probe Droid

(6) Officer x3

For objective based missions, my thought would be to use the stormtroopers to act as shields/block the opponent from getting to the objectives while using the officers to "order" the RGs and RGC into position to take the objectives.

I think the Elite Probe Droid is under-rated and a great value for 5 points.

Any thoughts on whether you think this would be a competitive list?

Personally, I like the Elite Officer better than the Elite Probe. Especially when you can have the RGC make another attack every round. But I've never really done much with Probe Droids so maybe I'm missing something there.

I thought the same thing, but the Elite probe Droid is throwing 3 dice (1 blue, 2 yellow) and has pierce 2, recover 2, and +2 damage as surges. AND can re-roll 1 attack die.

You'll probably be getting close to 2 surges per attack.

Mobile can also be very nice for going after objectives

Curious: How are you playing with 3 standard Imperial Officers if you only have one Core Box?

I bought a regular officer card from a friend who bought a 2nd core.

Ahhh...okay, that makes sense now.

I went 2-1 in a small tournament yesterday and came in 2nd place. My only lost was 38-40, and it was extremely close. I just needed 1 block to survive, and I got an evade instead.

I am planning on playing a very similar build at my regional this weekend.

RGC

Royal Guard x2

Imp Officer x4

39 points

All the good brawler and leader command cards.

Flurry of Blades

Inspiring Speech

Pummel x 2

Hold Ground

New Orders

Regroup

Close the Gap

Provoke

Urgency

Celebration

Fleet Footed

Rally

Planning

Take Initiative

I've been debating dropping one officer for a Probe Droid but coming in at 39 I'm hoping I will always get the initiative option and also have disposable figures to fuel the RGC and RGs abilities. Any thoughts or advice would be welcome.

I like this build at 39 because even though your out acted by 8 and 9 acts you can side get side or setup second. This should lessen the acts

If I had 2 core sets I probably would run a similar list. The only weakness I see is the lack of range attacks. The mobility of the RG and RGC should be able to capture objectives easily. You might run into a problem if your officers get killed. Your build relies heavily on the officers for their Order and activations.

I picked up a couple extra deployment cards and figures from the Team Covenant store, I haven't bought into a second core set...yet. Thanks for the input. I've been debating dropping a royal guard for a stormtrooper group and an elite officer upgrade but I like the flexibility of coming in at 39 points.

My list I ran last week was RGC, RG, 2x Stormtroopers, 2x Officers. Came in 2nd place. Only loss was to a very similar list running Vader instead. Get to the ship was the mission and he used Force lightning and a grenade in first two turns. Seriously lucky draws with his command deck.
