Do we have a sample pre-gen character for each of the specializations yet?

Do we have a sample pre-gen character for each of the specializations yet? I think this would be incredibly handy to have. I'm not talking about a "make your own," but actual sample full-fledged beginner characters.

Colonist
Doctor
Politico

Not yet. Why are you interested in this? I find character generation a very simple affair. It gets really interesting once the character has XP to spend on things beyond simply Attributes and a handful of talents/skills.

Edit - Ah...now I see the tiny print. Are you looking for backgrounds and stories as well?

So looks like you're angling for more NPC cards? I can support this line of thought! We need more!

Man I'd love to have some sort of online database of NPCs that the community can contribute to as well as use ideas from. There are a some stat generators, but it would be cool to bring in personality attributes, goals, background stories, hooks, etc. The trick is making it something more than a stat block while remaining general enough to be useful to lots of people with the push of a button.

No, I am not volunteering....yet.

So something like a SWFFG Character Wiki? Actually that would be kind of cool! I wonder if there could be a way to build the background and notes page and attach Oggy's builder files.

Doesn't oggdude's program already have a history section for the PC builder part?

I have been making a few NPCs available here and there on my blog, and I have seen others do it as well. The only thing missing is a central repository and format.

Those look really good - my only feedback would be to call out some of the personality points in bullet points for a GM to be able to easily read quickly (at least that's how I am able to digest information quickly, YMMV.) Otherwise, that's pretty much exactly what I was hoping to find.

I'll admit, I'm not much of a frontend guy, so were I to make this it would be rudimentary and copy & paste ready. In fact, I prefer it as plain-text as possible since I would be copying it into my own Holocron.

Now the backend - well, sky's the limit there.

Thank you very much. :)

I would ask the creators of the SWRPG online index if they would allow a section for homebrew NPCs. Since it is already popular, and built, I would think that it would be a good solution.

Good point. I use the heck out of that already.

Most wiki's are fairly easy to code and create, having made one for my own game, but having everyone stick to a format for easy search can be a real pain in the ewok. Oggy does have that BigTent group, so they could be posted there.

I believe that was part of the idea, yes. However, I don’t think any work has been done on that system in a while. I know I haven’t done much with it recently.

You could include both a PC version of the character, and an NPC/adversary version, depending upon whether or not you want to play him or kill him :)

With my apps, the XML of both can be exported from the generator and GM Tools. You can personalize adversaries by adding descriptions to them or giving them special abilities, and, of course, the PC version already has all of the obligations, motivations, and backgrounds available.

Exactly what I was thinking. My only concern is formatting of the history and background for NPCs. When I try to use the editor, it doesn't let me have formatting such as line breaks and things. I haven't tried the PC history box yet.

And how experienced would these characters be? Starting level? Knight level? Somewhere in between?

I was assuming for the OP he wants starting level. The NPC database that was discussed should have a range of XP.

That was my thought - having a broad range of NPCs from a nerfherder up to an Inquisitor could be a real boon for GMs and of course players alike. However, given that we can create NPCs outside the rules of PC creation, we might need to denote that somewhere to meet OP's requirements of a playable character.

Okay, that makes sense. I was using it last night and couldn't find some things from Fly Casual, but it's listed amongst the books. I think you guys have done a lot of the work needed to make this NPC database project shine - the one piece I see that's desperately needed is a dead simple way for people to input NPCs - XML might even be too much for some of our fine compatriots here. Perhaps a simple form could be included along side a "paste your xml in here" box to allow a couple methods to get data into the system. Or, of course, it could be curated, which would alleviate that entirely.

Most descriptions for PCs are text-only, but new line characters should show up on the sheet. NPC descriptions (Description pane) do accept bracket tags and HTML.

Couldn't you use the XML output for a "start" and have a section in the wiki to upload the fluff/story/etc?

Good to know. I never tried html codes in the NPC descriptions. That will make my OCD happy.

I think that it's fine and dandy that we have 6 pregens from the beginner's box, but I'd like to have a newbie pre-gen for each of the specializations. It would be very handy for people just entering the game, character replacements, kids playing, help for the GM for a "base" NPC of each spec', etc.

Could we start putting together a resource for that? Do any of you consider yourselves a wiz' at creating characters?

jh

When WFRP3 was created, we also had this shortage, so I made one for each of the 44 types (they're in Liber Fanatica 7). That effort paid off for MANY people. I no longer have that time luxury and I'm not as proficient at this system.

I can whip characters together fairly quickly. Though I wouldn't hurt to have a few people on history/background expansions. Or perhaps divide by career first?

None of those pregens are built like standard PCs. Their XP is off, as is their advancement in the setting.

That can always be added later. Can you get some stats posted here with talents, etc?

They don't need to be optimized, but should be "iconic" to the specialization. I think we can all then break them down, add names and backgrounds. Lastly, we could put them each into a Form-Fill character sheet.

ANYONE is welcome to post the stats for a basic character specialization or if any of you can whip up all of them in short order, that would be great too.
