Victory Star Destroyer phase 1

By Kilo147, in Star Wars: Armada

Long story short, I'm a good ways from finishing this. There's still a ton of little errors to touch up, the red isn't bold enough, it needs far more antennas as it is the flagship, not to mention a darkening of the bridge module.

But hey, it's a start.

I like the limited use of the red to break up the ship. Your on the right track.

It's gorgeous.

I have a love/hate relationship with this forum...the ships are beautiful, which I love, but it makes me insecure about my own abilities as a painter, which I hate! :P

Great looking ship!

Seeing this just unlocked my brain... I know know where the next set of stripes will go on my third victory. I added stripes to my second on the wing areas but couldn't for the life of me decided where to put the next!

Lots of inspiration from Empire At War. Less is better, except in the case of the Errant Venture. Then there's no such thing as too much.

Masking tape. Never paint towards the tape, start on the tape near the edge, brush towards the middle. You won't get paint under the tape that way. Go halfway, repeat on the other side. Repeat as needed, using as little paint as possible. Light coats of thinned paint show no strokes.

Phase 2 is the hard part. I need to cover all lower edges with reentry burn. It is atmospheric capable, after all.

Phase 3 is a total touch up, spot drybrushing, and edging, if necessary followed by a complete clearcoat in matte or satin.

Phase 4 involves purchasing a complete fleet of 28 vessels to scale, from destroyers and frigates to cargo ships and support craft and attaching them to the base and stand in various ways I haven't figured out yet. In the end the fleet will be a Victory, two Gladiators, and a host of smaller attack ships and support craft.

Finally, I need to get a second Victory and paint it in the purest white possible, carefully striping it in the most brilliant red available. I need one in full parade colors.

Well ****. I was putting a clearcoat on and errant bristles decided to attach themselves to my ship. Chipped the hell out of the paint trying to remove them. So now I have this hunk of junk.

So, should I do everything else like this, an old battered fleet Ala Battlestar?

Oh man I'm sorry. I hate applying varnish. I hate stray hairs. Still, it looks great. Can always fine grit sandpaper off the troublesome bits. Or an awesome trick, if there's just a bit of roughness/debris in the varnish layer is to scrub it with brown paper bag - try it out.

I think the ship looks great. While it does not help you now, in the future you should always give your model a hardy blast of canned air before priming and sealing to blast off errant dust of brush bristles.

Hardly a "hunk of junk," but looking closely I can see a hair there in the middle. I HATE it when that happens :/

Man, I like that a lot, nicely done. I think I'll take a stab at doing something to my victory as well. What did you use as a wash, out of curiosity?

Nuln Oil, Badab Black, and actual ink. Each one had a different color to it, and made a completely different look.

It's since been dropped and lost both antenna. Whoops.
