Still Haven't Flown my Star Vipers. Suggestions Needed.

By voidstate, in X-Wing Squad Lists

They sit on a shelf in my bedroom, taunting me. Two of them. Unplayed with. Nothing more than free gifts that came with some very expensive Autothruster cards.

But every time I try to make a viable squadron that includes them... it always ends up looking too weak. I need your help FFG Forumites. What should I do to make them worth the money I paid?

I looked on StarWars Clubhouse to see if anyone had had any success with them... and they don't feature in a single Store Championship-winning squadron (http://lists.starwarsclubhouse.com/store_champs).

Are they competitive at all?

Xizor with 4x z95 with feedback array is lots of fun

Ditto. Im having problems fielding a list too. Guri looks fun to fly but also looks fragile

Xizor with 4x z95 with feedback array is lots of fun

Fun? or competitive fun?

Would it be blasphemy if i copied my lists form Geordans builder? hahaha

Seriously though, theyre really fun ships and I'd feel bad if you didn't play them:

This is a harder swarm to use:

Mux can get rid of tough things.

The PS1 Starviper is really good for variable blocking and also has high defense against turrets.

GURI with Emon! Emon can wipe out Ints and Phantoms no problem. Which means Guri can tackle Turrets and other general stuff. Her efficiency is through the roof as long as you can paint the targets.
An extra Z for cannon fodder so that Guri and Emon can stay alive longer.

Never mention that name in this house! ...um, thread! :D

Nice lists. I'd come close to your last one, actually. Here it is (with Glittersim replacing the Feedback Switch I originally gave to Xisor)

Competitive? Not particularly. Fun? Yes!

I love Starvipers! I have 4 (as of 4:00 today when I go to my LGS to buy my fourth).

I have played Xizor takes a nap (Xizor & 4 z's with feedback) and it did pretty well. You have to make sure that you arrange your z's appropriately for blocking.

The key to starvipers is that they, just like interceptors, don't want to get shot, but they don't have the green dial to allow for PTL shenanigans. So, I like to try to keep them out at range 3 unless facing cannons. Autothrusters & 4/dice will keep you safe and you can plink your enemies shields to even things out. I also like one with advanced sensors for the ability to boost-S-turn. This allows quite a few different locations and can keep you out of trouble.

They take getting used to, but I have enjoyed flying mine so far. Uber competitive? probably not.

I've had success with VI Xizor. He dominates the end game, so if you can get him there you're pretty much set. That generally means you need another threat who can't be ignored. If you take this as your core;

Xizor - VI, title, FCS

Pirate

Pirate

That runs you 59 points, 41 left for another heavy hitter. I like either an agressor (usually B) or something else that can tank the heat it will undoubtedly take. I had a lot of the success with the following and nearly took it to regionals (bottles it last minute);

Xizor - VI, FCS, Title.

2 x pirate - feedback array.

Drea Renthal - autoblaster turret, munitions fail safe, ion torp, proton torp, r2-b11 (?? - the guy who lets you spend a tl to force defender to reroll evade dice)

Drea is terrifying for most opponents (particularly high agility ships and swarms) who will try to take her out early before she can fire her rerollable 4 Attack dice that force you to reroll defence! Even after her autoblaster creates 'no fly zones' which Xizor can exploit with his crazy options for dosging about. As long as you identify the end game threat and neutralise it whilst you're at full power, Xizor is capable of mopping up most things at the end and he will usually be i damaged if you keep him near the z's and/or Drea.

I took first place recently in a tournament with a Xizor w/ auto-thrusters, VI, advS, and inertial damps. In support were a syndicate thug with autoblaster turret (no title), two binayre Pirates and one black sun soldier, with inertial damps on two of the z-95s.

The theory behind the list is that Xizor is a high threat target, but is protected by his pilot ability until the late game. Meanwhile, the rest of the list are relatively cheap, bulky generics that do not make efficient targets. The opponent is left with bad targets, while Xizor is free to do damage early on and survive to the end of the game, where the hyper-maneuverability of this build comes into play.

It's probably not a top tier competitive list, but it performed very well in my tourny, beating a chewie+dash list and a palob+IG88 list for the win.

Cartel Spacer

-Heavy Scyk title

-Ion Cannon

Black Sun Enforcer

-Autothrusters

x3

100 points. Don't be afraid to jump in and block with the Enforcers, and definitely abuse your SLoops. Use the Spacer from a distance, and when you ionize somebody, pounce with the Vipers. Three Vipers with Focus are a beast to hit (and they throw enough red dice to make anything worry, too).

Local store championship was won by:

Serissu + Swarm Tactics
Guri + Predator + Autothrusters
Prince Xizor + Predator + Virago + Autothrusters + Advanced Sensors + Inertial Dampeners

The generics are far too much of a crapshoot for me

But Guri and Xizor strike me as very surprisingly durable for their profile

Focus on three agility is nothing to scoff at, and Guri can secure one independent of action. This means that (unlike something like Soontir) blocking is not much of a problem, and on a good un-blocked maneuver you can use both offensive and defensive focus to very potent ends.

Xizor is the anti-biggs. His always on, neither action dependent nor round limited ability means no one wants to shoot him.

Throw auto-thrusters on either (don't use both, Guri is the last thing you want to shunt damage to) and you'll have a party!

In my experience, neither character needs more than Predator (offense required to justify cost) and thrusters (it's ******* thrusters)

Unsure if I prefer Xizor with 5 Zs and two feedbacks or 4 PS 3 Zs and four feedbacks. I know he loves his expendable loyal Z-95s, though.

I apologize ahead of time for copying this from Geordan's:

Boba Fett (Scum) (39)

Push the Limit (3)

Autoblaster (5)

Recon Specialist (3)

Inertial Dampeners (1)

Ion Torpedoes (5)

Guri + Predator + Autothrusters (a simple and effective Guri build)

That's a list that lets you play both Syck's AND a Starviper.
