Any combination of Deci and Def you would take to Regionals?

By TheRealStarkiller, in X-Wing

Hull or shield in my experience SD fails the first time you roll green dice and may not prevent even one damage but that's personal bias.

Interestingly if stealth device evades just one attack it's paid for itself compared to hull upgrade.

I should start marking a die as my Stealth Device die so I know if it's pulling it's weight.

A blue stealth device die would be cool ^^

IF being the big sticking point, you might get a game where you roll three evades every time or one where the first round of combat see's you roll nothing but blanks and your ship goes pop.

I don't trust green dice.

I've had good success with a defender/firespray build.

Boba+VI+HLC+RebCap - 50 points

Rexler+Predator+HLC+StealthDevice - 50 points

I'm 10-2 with it.

Boba strips off shields and tokens, Rexler comes in and deals crits. In all but 2 games(the ones I lost) the defender stayed alive to the end.

I have a very successful build that is incredibly similar to this, I use predator, engine, mangler, and fleet officer on the firespray instead, giving rexy double focus. I can't fit the stealth device in on rexler either, but it's still pretty legit.

This seems like a possible Control build:

Patrol Leader (40)
Rebel Captive (3)
Delta Squadron Pilot (30)
Ion Cannon (3)
Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Darth Vader (3)
Total: 100
Maybe swap Vader / Captive, but I figure the Deci is target #1 so handing out stress would be easier that way.

How about this:

Oicuun with Determination, Mara Jade, and Ysanne Isard for 50

Delta Squad for 30

Avenger Squad for 20

I like to run Oicuun fairly light because he likes to get in the thick of things, stress everyone, and take a lot of fire. Determination and Isard lets you take a beating and still be effective.

The low PS Defender and Interceptor ensure that they get to where they want to be without being blocked and losing actions, which they sorely need.

I would consider dropping the Int down to an Alpha and put a bomb on the Decimator.

Defender costs too much for what it brings to the table.

If that were true DD would stand no chance yet I've won many games with two small ships.

How many of those were regionals? He posed the question what would you take to regionals and I presume he is trying to win it. For the points you are spending there are options that get you the same results for a lot less hard work. Not saying it can't be done but it won't be done easily or consistently.

I'd drop the Deci and take a 2nd Defender.

Deci's are like Biggs, don't put too much into them, they're going to die.

Try Chir with Expose, Rebel Cap and Exp Interface.

Rex with PTL, and Engine Upgrade

For 100 points

Chir hits really hard and strips tokens, Rex hits just as hard out of arc and could flip some crits.

I mean there is no inherent magic to regionals other than that you might play people from a wider zone than normal. If you are Paul Heaver's sparring partner, regionals should be a step down even, whereas if you only ever play your buddy Jimbo with house rules regionals will be several steps up. Assuming that someone's games are less valid just because they're not regionals is very silly.

If someone wins Gencon with 3 defenders then you know a lot of people gonna be trying out defenders and what that person ran and how they ran it because they won a major tournament and beat major competition to do that. Topics like this that ask for advice and opinions about what will work in a competitive setting sort of have metrics we kind of use. If someone was dead set on taking 6 hwks and legitimately wanted advice on how to win people would tell him it's basically impossible.

There are certain thoughts and beliefs that are taken as truth in the competitive scene. One of those is that 6 hwks won't win anything major. Another is that defenders are over costed for what they do. Now that doesn't mean they can't win but it's a pretty common belief that they aren't worth it. Saying hey I always beat my wife's 3 generic e wing list with my defenders isn't the same as saying hey I won Chicago's regional with my defender and here's how.

The challenge is changing those beliefs.

Yes I really like the Boba/Rexler combo. Thinking of trying some different combos of the 2 as well.

In my experience, putting HLC on Vessery makes him too much of a target. YMMV, as that was paired with Echo, not RAC. Still, defenders can't stand up to concentrated fire, so I'd make sure that RAC is the obvious choice to shoot at, and hope that you get down to a 1v1 endgame with V+LW+SD, because that's when the defender shines (esp. that kind of build).

Chiran0saurus Rex

RAC w/ VI, EU, Rebel Captive, Ysanne, and Navigator

Rexler Brath w/ VI

The Rear Admiral can use Navigator, Engine Upgrade, and PS 10 to arc dodge. Rexler tries to do the same. I've tried it from Kultz and done well with it so far.

super hard to rememeber

2 lowest Defenders = 60pts

1 lowest decimator = 40 points

done.

I did top 4 in a store championship with Decissry. I used Oicunn and Vessery and threw HLC and Outmaneuver on Vessery. Fat Falcon chaser. I'd probably put in the Admiral instead of Oicunn in future though.

You get the award for best squad name ever.

It's not mine. It's Klutz's name. I agree, though.
