Most of the named pilot abilities are good. The problem is with the ship, not the pilots.

With the bomber releases I am guessing/hoping for a X-Wing and E-Wing aces, Imperial Defender and ? Aces, Scum ... Im not sure what to ask or expect for scum aces.

You cannot separate ship and pilot. Darth Vader is the best Pilot in the game, but that's no reason to oppose an Advanced Fix.
Off the top of my head, Biggs and Luke have good abilities. Anyone else is much too situational to be consistently useful in all situations.

Antilles and Janson seem to be universally good...but scream "kill me!". And the X-Wing isn't tanky enough for them to live long enough for their abilities to be worth the cost.
Really, I think the only pilot whose ability is 'meh' is Garven, and that's because he lacks an EPT and is too low-skilled to give the focus to those that really want it/give it out for defense before the enemy shoots.
Name the ones worth taking.

Actually, it is - the majority of the people on this forum would agree that the X-Wing named pilots have very good abilities; it's just the ship and the generics which need some love.

I do believe they're worth taking. In fact, I've taken them all, flown them all, in multiple builds against multiple opponents and achieved good results. They've literally all got useful (and fun) abilities, and just like a lot of other ships in the game, the more you play with them, the more you learn to get out of them.
Maybe you should give them a go as well. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Porkins actually IS good. I actually played with him.
Hes fun to play. His issue is that are even better pilot available.

Porkins with PTL and R5-D8 is good, I'll give you that. But he's then nearly a third of your points on a ship that can still self harm, and not in a fun way like Vader.
Ah yes ... Vader WILL be fun with the fix.
Right now you can still ignore him like a single A-Wing.
I proxed the T/Adv fix and I know Vader will be so awesome.
Porkins can k-turn like a Defender and may even out-k-turn Vader.

I almost got the feeling like the RAF pilots are complaining about their Spitfires, just because intel reported that the upcoming FW190 versions are to be equipped with 20mm cannons...
Garvin and Jek are the only two named pilots that I don't fly regularly. Not really for any particular reason other than I find the other pilots' abilities more attractive.
I still marvel how fantastic the abilities of all the TIE Fighter pilots are, it's probably my favourite ship in the game due to the possibilities. The X-wing also has some fantastic pilots, however the ship itself is struggling to justify its position in the current game due mainly to the B-wing and the hyper-mobility of newer ships. I still don't understand why the B-wing has a barrel roll, but I'd wager the only reason the X-wing lacks this ability is due to its inclusion in the core set and the developers wanting to differentiate the play styles between sides.
In retro-perspective, Barrel Roll perhaps should be available for every snub-fighter as a standard - just like focus.

I don't know why you 2 are fighting because you are actually right with the part you say about the X here. The ship and the generics need something. And i would think if the ship gets a good title or modification that gives it some help, then the generics will also be playable, along with the named pilots.
But as it is now, none of the 2 are really worth taking.

I don't know how you would call it, it just never makes sense taking an X-Wing these days except if you want Biggs' ability.
It's the 2 defense dice, no mobility, limited options that make it a bad ship in combination. And the more worthwile ships come out the worse it gets in comparison.
