Secondary weapons with a range of 2-3...

By Mud Turkey 13, in X-Wing Rules Questions

These weapons cannot fire on someone who is range 1 from the attacker. Does this mean that if a defender is straddling ranges 1 and 2 that it could not be shot because part of it is range 1 or is it still fair game since part of it is still in range 2? This seems like a simple question, but I just want to be sure I understand this properly. Thank you!

To measure range you measure from the closest point on the attacker to the closest point on the target (within the allowable field of fire) and that is the range. So if a ship is straddling the line between ranges 1 and 2, it is at range 1.

That is what I thought, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

Usually. If your weapon has a limited arc, there are odd cases where you can only shoot at the target's back corner and get stuck with a longer range for your shot than if you had a turret.

Hence my parenthetical "(within the allowable field of fire)"
