Blast vs Minions

By lj55068, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hey all,

Can anyone explain how the blast quality works against a minion group?

Thanks

If they are within engaged range of one another you'd apply it to all of them. However, there is nothing that says a minion group has to be within engaged range of each and in fact that would be an exceedingly stupid way for them to fight.

I think there was a dev answered question about applying it to the total number or each individually in that sticky section.

Sometimes it isn't stupid to cluster together; sometimes it's a necessity. Certain spaces don't allow for much maneuvering (trenches, hallways, small rooms, etc) and any group inside then would be, at least partially, engaged.

Sometimes as well certain talents or other effects require characters to be engaged with one another.

So I wouldn't always peg it as an exceedingly stupid way to fight, but the GM should of course be aware of the NPCs' tactical acumen and general knowledge of the surrounding area, and roleplay them appropriately.

It's always stupid, that's why they would only send in one tunnel rat and not 30. In real combat if a space is that tight, you blow it up, you don't assault it.

Obvious counterpoint is obvious.

That doesn't make what they did not stupid.

And a good example of when to use grenades

Your first post suggests that minion groups shouldn't be engaged (because it's stupid), but engaged minion groups are a very flavourful Star Wars thing.

Which still doesn't mean it's not a stupid way to fight.

I realize there are times it is necessary to storm a fixed position. I realize there is an iconic scene in Ep IV. None, of that equals good tactics, it's still a crummy way to fight.

I also think George Lucas was trying to create an exciting action packed scene, not shoot a field manual for how to properly storm a seized starship.
