Does the Slave 1 look too big?

By Conandoodle, in X-Wing

.. or is it just me?

When I first saw it I thought the same thing. But if you go back and actually look at how big it is in the movies, you can start to see just what a monster it is.

It's just you.

Well, actually, I've had bystanders comment the same thing. The thing that throws people off is the cockpit. People don't seem to realize that the cockpit canopy is actually huge compared to its pilot and houses 2 crew seats next to it.

Yes

My first thought seeing it on the table was, yes, that monster is way out of scale. But that's because my sense of size is informed by my Kenner toys of the 80's.

Totally ninja'd you Hobojebus.

It's the cockpit canopy that throws people off. Here's another great image that shows just how massive that canopy bubble is compared to a pilot.

Oh yeah, I checked out some sizes on the inter-google device and realised that it's fine. It just looks huge compared to other ships.

I think this is probably the reason it looks odd to me.

2 crew? 2 crew?!

I wish. Recon Specialist + Rebel Captive (Imperial) or Recon + K4 Droid (Scum) or double Tactician... that's the stuff dreams are made of.

(Well, that, and young Ms. Fisher in a well known airy outfit.)

This. It's a massive ship.

Don't EVER say that to Kath!

The firesprays in X-Wing: Alliance and some other games are much smaller. If you're used to those then this one looks huge.

Do you perhaps have a link to a larger image?

Tune in next week for these exciting threads:

Does my YT-1300 make me look fat?

Hound's Tooth: bounty hunter in your pocket or just happy to see you?

Should I fly Scum if I have entomophobia?

I know exactly what you mean...but I think the Corvette and Transport look a little too small! ;)

They are. They are at a different scale than the regular ships

A-Wings are too big and Y-Wings too small

I just realized how weird it is that the Firespray lands in a different orientation than it travels in.

Looking at the last schematic posted in here it appears that the cockpit section is on a swiveling cradle that must swing into place as the ship takes off. Is that so?

That must be one of the more inefficient designs in a fictional universe full of inefficient designs. Is all the space "behind" the cockpit section ("behind" insofar as the ship appears in upright flight-mode) completely wasted emptiness?

No there's an area for crew to rest.

A-Wings are too big and Y-Wings too small

A-Wings always seemed about right to me - but the Wishbone definitely feels a little too small in comparison - I always felt the front section of the Y should be roughly the same size as the A.

Back to the Firespray.

I see five seats there, and I'm sure the prisoners are stuffed in the back.
So I really wish FFG had measured right for crew slots.

Heavy Laser Cannons indeed.

It is an incredibly large starship, to be certain.

When looking at the stats .. it is OK. But at a glance??

Also, HWKs look too small .. when they're combined it looks very odd (to my eyes).
