Really Trying to Like Armada...

By Sekac, in Star Wars: Armada

I don't even use the X-wing Core for demos. Why? Because there isn't enough going on. If I am demoing for anyone over the age of 8 that has played anything more then Monopoly in thier gaming history I up the ship count by 1 on each side. Armada is significantly better in that regard as the Core Set has enough to be actually enganging.

But I won't try and act like I'm getting a real game out of either Core. I never had to with X-wing, and I'm not going to try with Armada. It isn't what the Core Sets are for, they are not stand alone products.

You could prove it, and FFG still shouldn't do anything about it. Core Sets do not strive to be or need to be balanced. It be a waste to address something that will be a non-issue in the coming weeks. It isn't as if there are Regionals for Armada.

I don't get your point, why shouldn't they be balanced? I think the appeal for X-wing started because the Core set was incredibly fun and somewhat balanced, at least a lot more than this.

No it wasn't XWing core set is awfu armada you can build two full size lists. XWing not even close.

What do you mean by "full-size"? Standard tournaments will be 400pts once wave 2 hits. The Core set doesn't even come close, not to mention that you're stuck with 1 ship vs. 2 ships, which is *exactly* the way X-wing was. The difference is in X-wing player skill and luck could swing the game both ways, whereas here it seems to me like the Imperial player just has to lay back and not do critical mistakes with his Ties (because there's very *very* little chance of someone dropping the Victory in 6 rounds at 180 pts with just the Core.

Figured it was obvious but will clarify currently the recommended and tournament legal fleet size is 180 points. Never were you able to build a legal fleet with XWing core XWing core us a boring experience. Armada core is much better

I managed to drop my mate on Turn 6; also to the people saying Xwings get stuffed, should see my lot; they seem to regularly blast ties out of the sky in one shooting round; 3 hits is not uncommon on those 4 blue dice for me.

Admittedly my mate did fly into debris with no shields and only 1 hull point remaining, but that to his own admission was that he didn't bank on my lucky shots wiping all his hull out in <2 turns once his shields had pretty much gone. For tactics I simply 'made' him go where I wanted him to then pincered him between my 2 ships. We were playing the 'most wanted' objective. So he picked my nebulon b (Yes I realise now that I should have chosen but still) and I turned left; he turned into that and I then just spun right round in a circle and left him exposed to my fire.

You could prove it, and FFG still shouldn't do anything about it. Core Sets do not strive to be or need to be balanced. It be a waste to address something that will be a non-issue in the coming weeks. It isn't as if there are Regionals for Armada.

It isn't a positive.

Given the fun the 180 point game offers(which is more than the X-wing core)

I'm psyched for more. I can see finding it frustrating that there are only three ships. But the Swuadron aspect more than makes up for the low ship numbers.
