Battle Report - 180 points - Rebel vs Imperial

By DWRR, in Star Wars: Armada

Actually 300 points!

This was our first game, everything flowed well and I believe the only thing we missed in the heat of battle was the Imperial player forgetting his upgrade cards, which might possibly have changed things. Took us just under 2 hours to play.

The fleets assemble...

We didn't use any obstacles or objectives while getting the rules sorted.

The fleets deploy facing towards each other, one Nebulon in the far corner. The first few activations saw the rebel fleet start to turn toward the left leaving Tarkin's Victory out of the fight.

The Imperials do manage a Tie Fighter alpha strike on turn 2 and manage to take out Luke Skywalker. The Rebel ships continue their flanking move to the left, taking fire on the Dominator. The combined fire of all 4 rebel ships strip the Victory of its front and side shields and manage to inflict one critical hit.

A Nebulon ends its move facing the Dominator, which was unable to avoide a collision so when activated stayed in the spot. It unloads turbo laser fire on two rebel ships in its front arc (Gunnery Team) loosing a dice from the critical hit and it was at this point that we forgot the Dominator Upgrade... It causes massive damage but doesn't destroy either ship.

Meanwhile Tarkin's struggles to bring his ship into the fight...

The rebels are able to pour fire into the struggling Dominator. With all defends toke spent or exhausted and 4 critical hits and no shields it finally succumbs, breaking apart in a massive explosion.

The Tie Fighters finish off the X-Wings but end up almost all in the side arc of a Nebulon. After withering anti-fighter fire almost all Tie squadrons are down to 1 hit. The fleets start to turn, circling each other trying to get back into range.

By the end of turn 6 the Rebels were just nipping at the heals of Tarkin's Victory but it was almost unscathed. The crippled Nebulon was limping away from the fight.

Rebel Victory!

The game was a total blast! The feeling of using defenses to try and redirect attacks and mitigate damage really did make you feel like the ships were huge with multiple systems and redundacies. As the Dominator went down there was a sense of desperation to find another redirect or engineering token or something to just get that one shield back or damage point stopped.

Great fun!
