I am not super familiar with the extended universe stuff, and had never heard of or seen a Hound's Tooth before the Wave 7 announcement. I have to admit that the first thing that came to mind was a stapler (pardon my shoddy photoshop skillz).

Personally, I think it looks like a flying suitcase. Not sure who designed it, but they may indeed have been looking too closely at a stapler.
